Not saying goodbye to the shoe ... rather, saying goodbye to its sole !

Wait, is this the actual episode? I'm laughing, but confused.

It's an edit (not mine) from an episode where the Flanders family submitted a homemade film about Moses to a film festival.

The other half of the joke was that Hank Scorpio scene:

Well now I understand the joke, and I forgot about Hank Scorpio. So, now I get it, but my initial understanding was WAAAAY funnier.

I thought a nun had put on a fake beard to sneak down to a river in Afghanistan in order to put a shoe bomb into a picnic basket, and send it along the river as a trojan horse to commit an act of terrorism.

None of it made sense individually. It REALLY makes no sense when you add it all together. But c'mon, if that was your first and initial thought process, it would be confusing, but funny as hell.

Also, I love absurdist random humor.
