I'm also surprised it took this long considering how much people obsess over pokemon cards.

The anime was the main driver of entertainment for general audiences. Now that Ash and Team Rocket have been retired from the anime, there's no reason to put all their eggs in the typical weekly shounen format basket. Pokemon can experiment with other forms of media now in addition to the weekly anime, as shown with Detective Pikachu, Horizons, Concierge, the upcoming Misadventures of Sirfetched and Pichu, the rumoured live-action Netflix series, and now Wild Card, not to mention PokeToons, Paldean Winds and other short animated series on YouTube.

This poster goes kinda hard for a movie that's about the freakin pokemon card game.

From the country that bring you so many mundane sport/games but with super power, it's kinda on course.
