Tour de France cyclists used to smoke before climbing into the mountains to warm the lungs or some other stupid reason.

I'm sure some of them were sponsored to do that, the whole Tour de France was basically an extremely successful marketing campaign

TIL the mascot had a name

It means 'drinking' in Latin and the slogan was that the tire drinks up (absorbs) all obstacles.

Smoking during a cardio sport. People back then gave no fucks.

Agreed with kahjtheundedicated@lemmy.world, their bike tires are still excellent.

Great additional images! Such a strange mascot. In some, it looks like a mummy, while in others like a muscle-bound stay puft marshmallow man.

I do not understand how this nightmare fuel is an advertisement.

What a time where 'the best' in advertising was also 'the cheapest'.

And they still make some pretty great bicycle tires that come in a little cheaper than similar tires

The best is the least expensive in the long run
