I was inspired by the shoes sold by Dog Mocs, and wanted to make something similar for my dog. Went through a few iterations, starting from hand-drawn shape and glued-together fabric to a CAD-designed, 3d printed template and, of course, leather. Dog's name is Melody, she can walk and run almost like normal in these shoes, without them shifting around.
Next step is to parameterize the CAD design, try out different leathers (thinking goat and deer) and see if any of the neighbours with smaller dogs might be willing to let their dog be models.

not op but usually it’s to avoid extreme temperatures. also if you’re in an area where they de-ice roads and trails, the dissolved salt and chemicals can cause problems on paw pads months after it was put down.
the second one probably depends on what they use to de-ice. it’s some unsavory stuff where i am, so it’s not an uncommon sight to see dogs with footwear out on the trails!

Yes exactly! I live in Germany, some days in winter is cold enough that she tries to stand on three feet when we go out. They also use tiny rocks (I'm not sure what to call them) to increase grip on icy roads, I've been told that salt is used in some cases too.

Wow, those are incredible! How does your dog like them?
Also, I like the design choice to let the nails stick out a bit. Is there any concern with something getting inside the shoe that way though? I'm imagining how sometimes I get something caught under my foot when I'm wearing my slides and it's just the worst. Lol

She's okay with them, she doesn't try to get rid of them, she goes up/ down stairs, walks and runs fine immediately, but she's a bit slower. We only tested for one forest walk, it's still early autumn weather here so she doesn't need them yet.
