I though i could play a tatical rpg before i play a new game of my favorite series (Fire Emblem) as comparison. So i got Brigandine Abyss. In short it's a rather bad game. wouldn't recommend it.
But netherless i finished a playthough from one of the 6 story paths. This game is very simple, it gives you 3 phases:
organisation phase: you manage equipment, class changes, buying stuff and improving your regions etc.
attack phase: you could select one or more target to attack from regions beside them
invation phase: your attacks or the one from enemy regions are executed.
That's more or less how the game runs and you will interrupted a few time for story related stuff. Btw the story is bad.
This gamplay loop could be alright if the gameplay would be better, but the maps are replacable, the ki is braindead and it's repetetiv. I mean i had a bit fun for a few hours, but not to long, that why i only finished one story which took me about 20 hours.
If the enemy units attack, they just run in your direction. If they defend, they wait for you until you either attack one of them or are in reach of about 4 tiles. I just seached for a place on the map i could defend these stupid enemies and attack with range units. No need to strategy if you could just play every map more or less the same.
This game has a lot Characters with sometimes nice designs. But you don't know much about most of them. Character work could be better as well
I should play a good game again, but i will like Fire Emblem Fortune Weave for sure. So that's my next game.
FINALLY finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3, after 190 hours of game time. Might sound crazy, but I struggle to give it even a 5/10. It feels like Xenoblade without the magic of the first two. I really didn’t enjoy the story, and never really connected with the main cast. I did like some of the “Heroes”, but you run out of interactions with them pretty fast. None of the colonies or the city felt nearly as fantastical or even alive as some of the locales in the first two games. There was some cool geography, but it didn’t feel like the game really did anything with it, other than just having you walk through it. Again, it just doesn’t feel very alive.
Still I kept going in hopes it would redeem itself, since I loved the first two so much. But that time never came, and I found the ending deeply unsatisfying.
As for this month, I’m play Horizon Zero Dawn right now, but still planning on starting Trails of Cold Steel this month. Or maybe the FF7 remakes. We’ll see
