It's Wednesday 09/02/2026. Hey, What's Going On!

Maybe today I will get to work on what I am supposed to work on.

This post is for casual conversation if you don’t feel like making a post of your own.

Today I had a job interview that was so bad it made me think I might never get another job as a developer. I've been working for 8 years now and most of what I've learned during vocational training 12 years ago I'd consider obsolete but man they were grilling me about everything OTHER than my previous job. What kind of projects did I do to learn programming, what sort of customer base did the employer of my vocational training have etc.
And I have real trouble with memory. If I were to stitch together all my memories ages 0 thru 20 you might get like 24-48 hours worth of stuff.
Ultimately we aborted the interview because half an hour in they finally tell me they're actually not offering 100% remote positions so thanks for wasting my time dipshits.

But holy hell, never before has a single interview made me rethink my entire life this much. If I can't get a job as a developer I guess I'm doomed to remain out-of-work until the end of my days. It's a scary feeling.

My one remaining option is to come up with a good game idea and make a living as a solo gamedev but that's not going well either

The job market is such a shit show right now. You would think hiring would be easy, but the hiring process has been taken over by bean counters who think salaries should go down because their are so many people looking, HR drones trying to hold on to power as they offer nothing of value in the hiring process, sloperator managers whose heads and asses have become even more indistinguishable, and neurotypical extroverted tech-bro wannabe executives who want everybody in the office to stoke their egos. As a developer trying to hire developers it sucks, and as a developer looking for a job it is a nightmare.

The best chance of getting a job is probably networking, but everybody is too burned out to do that. We need local neurodivergent-only casual tech networking meetings.

But even if I find somebody I want to hire, it is almost impossible (see parent comment).

Yeah networking is where I fail. I just do not know people and have no idea how to connect with people.
So I just find every job ad I can find and apply there. But then they get absolutely mad when you do that. „What about our company specifically made you apply here“ because you are looking for a backend dev and I am really good at that fuck off I shouldn’t need a justification beyond that.
I am so fucking unfit for this world it’s beyond hilarious

I’m knitting a couple of shawls, and they are coming out very nicely.

Recently, my favorite color changed from blue to purple, so I’m using up all of my blue yarn and already have some purple yarn on the way.

I also need to finish up some pet comfort blankets and donate them to my local shelter. It’s a busy knitting week!

Teaching today, working with a new tutor who needs a bit of support and looking after.

Masking my way through a teaching day is always tiring but the extra effort of socialising with a new person means I will properly crash when the working day is over.

At least I'll sleep well tonight.

Went outside and harvested some tomatoes from the very sad plants (its too wet and the fungus is consuming them despite the efforts for that to not happen)

Today the pakige arrives. Pakige!!!!! Hoooo pakige.

Uhm, I mean the dehydrator arrives. Exciting! Hopefully in one piece.

I bought a Medeco lock and a random grab-bag of other locks online a few weeks ago because I'm tired of re-picking all of mine. The package sat in Spokane for two weeks, teleported here over night, and has been stuck at "arrived at USPS center" since 1 AM. It's supposed to be here by 9 PM. Either they didn't spring for the good tracking or it's sitting in some random van. The uncertainty is killing me.
