The Trump administration will soon announce sharply lower vehicle fuel-economy standards, reversing a push by the prior administration ​to force automakers to build more fuel-efficient vehicles, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy ‌said Monday.

"(increase) fuel spending by $185 billion", disincentives electric cars. It's wrapped up like it's a good thing, but that's a red herring.

I am not really sure what it means. The CAFE standards we had encouraged larger, less fuel efficient vehicles and discouraged smaller, more efficient ones.

While I wanna shout at the headline, fuel economy standards are something we need to revisit anyway.

which is good i guess because adding 1% fuel efficiency ends up making the engine 15% more expensive at a certain point; you can't go below a certain fuel consumption level but if you try, you pay hard for it.
