Good luck finding a jury who will convict an innocent man. I'd buy him a beer.

Unfortunately his lawyers will tell him to make a plea deal before it even gets to a jury

Reygle@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 4d

Let's hope he's smarter than that.

If everyone banded together and refused to ever take a plea deal, it would completely overwhelm our justice system and make it impossible not to enact reform.

The government literally doesn't have the resources to take everyone they imprison to trial, and they need the private prisons filled. If they can't fill the cots, private equity moves somewhere profitable.

Once theyre gone, they stop paying lobbyists, once there's no prison lobbyists, no politician is really going to give a fuck.

But it's literally a prisoner dilemma.

Quick question: where do the people awaiting trial go?

Cort@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 4d

Short term prisoners (convicted or not) usually go to jail, prison is typically for people sentenced to more than a year.

Zannsolo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 4d

Depends on the state, but either way it overwhelms all parts of the system.

ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d

I want to buy his art installation of a guillotine.

BC_viper@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d

And he already had that completely normal bottle opener he brought with him.

Do we remember the gallows brought to the U.S. Capitol by the insurrectionists on January 6th?

osanna@lemmy.vg · 12 pts · 4d (1 reply)

yeah, but that's different both because dumpy can do what he wants, and the dems are spineless cunts.

isles@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d

Spineless cunts or controlled opposition working as intended? (I know, I know, porque no los dos)

shittydwarf@piefed.ca · 31 pts · 4d (14 replies)

What's the charge?

AviAdi@lemmy.world · 41 pts · 4d (4 replies)

Bringing a dangerous weapon to public space. The damn pickup was more dangerous than that guillotine πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Bahnd@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 4d

You are technically correct, the best kind of correct. Trucks kill people every day, last time a guillotine killed anyone "officially" was in 1977.

OMG πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Grandma?

Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 4d

No. This is your new step grandpa. Granny's mouth is busy right now. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

A misdemeanor charge of β€œCarrying a dangerous weapon outside a home or place of business” according to the document shown in the video

eurodyne@piefed.world · 6 pts · 4d (4 replies)

A misdemeanor? What, is there a fine?

AviAdi@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 4d (1 reply)

Yea you'd figure it would just be a fine but they arrested him and held him in jail

eurodyne@piefed.world · 3 pts · 4d

Assholes

Penguin_1024@piefed.zip · 4 pts · 4d (1 reply)

And he's wasn't carrying the guillotine. It's too big to be carried by 1 person.

eurodyne@piefed.world · 2 pts · 4d

I’m sure. I seriously doubt that an operational guillotine small enough to be carried by a single person would be considered a threat to another person. possibly to a small animal.

Eating a meal. A succulent Chinese meal.

Get your hands off me!

Reygle@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 4d

KayLeadfoot@fedia.io · 18 pts · 4d (1 reply)

What, is carpentry illegal now...?

massacre@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 4d

What's the charge, building a succulent piece of mahogany furniture with metal trim?

defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 4d

So much for the 2nd amendment.

Canconda@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 4d (2 replies)

Ok I'll share a new link standby

Gork@sopuli.xyz · 7 pts · 4d

That's why you gotta bring it in parts, or build one up over time at the destination and replacing parts that deteriorate over time like a Guillotine of Thesus (this also makes it harder to prosecute because is it really the same guillotine).

frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io · 5 pts · 4d

I see the mistake here. It has to be a gun/guillotine and then you're free to tote it in public.
