Police in Tulsa murdered a man during a wellness call and got the news to censor it

The officers knew the call they were responding to included someone with a gun*, and "she told the police that he was autistic, that he was in crisis." and then somehow within 1 minute of of them arriving, they tried to de-escalate* then decided (or knew?) it wasn't possible, responded with lethal force, then didn't give any medical care for 9 minutes?

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but don't they literally have several non-lethal options that would've still stopped any immediate threat? And if what's in the articles about the context is correct, shouldn't they have gone into it more prepared to respond to a distressed person?

"I didn't know what to do because it was beyond what I could do on my own," Tyler said on Feb. 11. "I thought I was trying to save his life by dialing those numbers (911). But I sealed his fate.

I'd take them more seriously if they could be bothered to spell "censoring" correctly.
