It makes me wonder what Texas didn’t teach me during the 90s and 00s or what slant was on what they DID teach me.

For me it was learning that white settlers originally came to texas because the Mexican government wanted them to cull the native American population, then succeeded from Mexico because they were going to take away their slaves. Definitely didn't scratch that surface in grade school.

The slavery stuff was so important that the Texans wrote it into their very first constitution. Which is now proudly on display at the state museum in Austin.

Too bad there isn't a National Council for the Social Studies that publishes national standards for states to use...oh wait there is.
