I mean, buying memory and cups from a few years ago is still massively inflated, so if they can sell chips with that performance they’ll still make bank.
Even if the chips are less energy efficient, China has cheaper energy now thanks to investing in green energy.

Memory doesn't move as fast as logic, machines from 5 years ago are still making current ddr5 silicon.

I’ll admit they use more coal than I thought, and 87% of their energy used from fossil fuels.
But your chart is very out of date.
They’ve quadrupled solar output since your chart ends, tripled wind, 40% more nuclear, and coal hasn’t increased for two years.
As a percentage of energy used coal is decreasing, when looking at electrify its fossil fuels are 58% now, down from 81% in 2012.

That's the big scam about "energy transition": it's miserably failing. Govs put up target in % of energy generation to show fossil fuel numbers going down.
But the goal was never to achieve a ratio. The goal was to actually reduce emissions, eventually down to 0. They keep increasing. We've barely slowed down the yearly growth.
Every year, we get farther and farther from the hope of keeping Earth survivable for humans.

If you're going to be a dumbfuck and blanketedly criticize China because you're an Imperialist, at least come correct. The chart you posted is old as fuck. Post a recent one and notice just how much progress China has made in the sector.
Then I want you to dartboard any other country on the planet and compare the green energy trajectory. China wins, and you're in denial.

Idk what form that would take for memory, but it’s a pretty standard tactic for big tech, so I could see them convincing themselves it’s possible even if it’s not.
FCC approval is probably the most viable moat.
