I saw this film when I was 8. some of those scenes are still etched in my memory. I told another kid at the church I attended at the time about it and lent him the vhs, only to find out that he later showed a part of the film during a service and he was kicked from the church and I never saw him again. an obscure crazy florida story for everyone. :)

this movie goes hard as fuck. down here folks kinda like Waters. Hairspray used to be a tv staple and it took me too long to realize who Divine was. The musical adaptation was an actual box office hit when it came out in mid 2000s. i saw Cecil B Demented in the cinema around the time it came out. We had a film theater that showed foreign films with no overdubbing and my dad took me to a seance after school - i was 9 years old or something. that was like the first time i saw my dad giddy. i still think it is a majestic movie.
