Look at Plato carrying that book like he didn't make a good living "teaching the controversy" about writing. Just asking questions mfer.

phar@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 7d (2 replies)

Aristotle would be the younger one. But you probably knew that. Hard to tell. Good job sir.

fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 5d (1 reply)

Plato also has a book tho.

phar@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 5d

Oh shizzle...

yesman@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 7d

In undergrad philosophy, most exams are simply headshots of famous philosophers that the students have to identify. In post-graduate studies, they use the picture of Nietzsche when he's shaved.

Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle, while Plato they say could stick it away, half a crate of whiskey every day.

JasonDJ@lemmy.zip · -4 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Whiskey was invented in the 15th century...

It's a reference to the philosophers song by Monty Python.

One is thinking about the sky. The other is thinking about the ground.

The mnemonic I learned in school was SPA: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle

So yeah Aristotle is the younger dude simping hardcore for his mentor in the red garb (but really most likely used Plato as a projection canvas for his own ideas in writing)

restingOface@quokk.au · 9 pts · 7d (3 replies)

It's like, who died and left Aristotle in charge of ethics?

eestileib@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 7d (2 replies)

Plato is the one with very close relationships to a bunch of young boys.

Aristotle is the one who enjoyed femdom.

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Femdom, but from a man pretending to be a woman. Everyone knows there were no women in Greece!

eestileib@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 7d

Did I stutter?

Proper femdom, she rode him like a horse and whipped him. We even know her name-Phyllis.

GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 7d

Behold, Plato!

20cello@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 7d (3 replies)

Aristotle is the bearded one

danekrae@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 7d (2 replies)

Sorry for my stupidity, but I just want to be absolutely sure...

Is he the one with his toes out?

20cello@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Nope,it's the other one

danekrae@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 7d

Ooh, so the one gesturing with his right hand, got it.

cardboardchris@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 7d (8 replies)

If anyone's curious, Aristotle was Plato's student, so Aristotle is the younger of the two men, and Plato is the older one.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 10 pts · 7d (4 replies)

Plato is the older one

Found Plato.

Isn't that Diogenes?

Rivalarrival@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 7d (1 reply)

I think that's a plucked chicken.

5ha99y@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 7d

Sorry, my bad. You're definitely right. But if so, everyone in this picture is. By that, they are indestinguishable from each other

cardboardchris@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 7d

I'm pretty sure that's right

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Can't tell if serious or joking...

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 7d

Oh fuck I'm confusing Socrates and Aristotle! I'm going to go read dialectics in shame.

Sly2@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 5d

Also Plato points upwards bc his philosophy is more about idealism whereas Aristotle points forward bc he's concerned with empirical Philosophy iirc

Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf · 3 pts · 7d

One of the two was sold as a slave.
