Too many tomatoes from the garden. So I made some tomato butter to use instead of mayo. I regret not putting more of it on. But I'll use the leftover for some pasta dish.
Cost per person $2.85

While I admire your inventiveness I think you need to get your acronyms in order because that is certainly not a BLT.

It's not spelt tcucumber?
Edit: I'm dumb, the joke should have been l'cucumber

Sorry. Cucumber is our default and I was eager to get the post done and eat and didn't consider changing the default name this time. But I think most people can figure it out.

Cucumber, bacon and tomato.

We call em BLCs because my wife and I are not really a raw tomato fans. My son has helped bring us all around though. He loves em.

This look like cucumbers not lettuce. Cut lengthwise and peeled.
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d
Yes. Sorry. I was busy eating while typing. That's our standard L replacement. Better than lettuce. And these days it is safer too.

damn this looks delicious as fuck. though I'm not sure about my current bacon tolerance but godayum

You could do carrot bacon alternative. Carrot peeler, soy sauce, brown sugar, paprika, maybe some liquid smoke. Use the peeler to make strips. Dip. Bake until crispy.
ThunderComplex@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 2d
ewww, thanks for the tip. But I can't stand the taste of carrot ><

It'll taste more like bacon. Fat free vegan bacon.
ThunderComplex@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1d
fat free and vegan? staahp you're ruining a delicious looking meal for me.
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d
That was definitely the unspoken subtext of that comment. Still better than turkey bacon though.
ThunderComplex@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 1d
Never tried turkey bacon but I’ll stick to regular bacon regardless of what my stomach says hehe

Whoa, never heard of tomato butter before. Sounds intriguing.
I rarely keep butter, but maybe I could try it with ghee, or somesuch..
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2d
I used this recipe but reduced the amount by half. I might be tempted to add a pinch of MSG in the future.
There are other versions where you cook the tomatoes down in a pot to evaporate enough juice to almost get a paste and work from there.
Some even skin ghd tomatoes.
You are going to want to make sure your ghee to be between liquid and solid. So refrigerate accordingly.
I start to panic if I don't have at least one pound of butter in the house at all times. Some kind of trauma response from childhood?
JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social · 1 pts · 2d
Thanks. I stashed the recipe. 👍
No judgement intended, but sounds pretty normal for The South, frankly. Similar with lard, I'd guess.

I grew up Italian so olive oil was the default. But butter was still essential.
