From there, the couple takes a train from Rahway to Newark, a PATH train into Manhattan, and then the 1 train to Tribeca, where they both work.
So far, Brian says the commute has been fairly smooth — but it's the connections that can make or break their day.
“If there is a misconnection, if there is a cancelled train, any trouble like that, it really does produce a lot of stress because daycare closes at 6 p.m.,” Molly said.
I feel two things:
- People who use NYC metro area transit shouldn't have to worry about missed connections. Service ought to be frequent enough it's not going to ruin your day.
- Move to Newark?

You really gotta live on the line you wanna use to reliably use NJT to commute. It's a fairly good system, considering the others in the country, but it can cause some huge headaches when it fucks up.
Were I working in Manhattan, I think I'd be living in Newark or Jersey City.

this was me back in the late 2000's and it's not worth it for the cost alone -- not to mention that it's a complete non-starter if your social life is based in new york and makes you stay out past 10pm.

I think I might do it if I were in my twenties, getting paid bank, and unstoppable again. Otherwise? Naw, Jersey is fine enough. I watched The Commute from the burbs to the Financial District utterly destroy so many peoples lives in the 90's and 00's. They were making phenomenal money and absolutely miserable.
