"Bafta-winning actor" instead of the fucking name.

Post a comment complaining about not giving the fucking name and then don’t give the fucking name. It’s Matt Berry, who won the BAFTA for Toast of London He’s also widely known from his role in What We Do In The Shadows and the IT Crowd

And from that Synthesizer commercial. His best work yet.

Wha? I didn't know the name at that time, I found out later and edited. I know who Matt Berry is, that's why I'm baffled why they wouldn't just name him.

“KALLAX STORAGEBORN”
The shelf companion is summoned by using a new Dragon Shout.. “AYE-KEY-YAH.”

Okay that's actually funny advertisement.

Yeah this is one of the best digital marketing stunts I’ve ever seen.
If every company released random mods for games that are 15-20 years old, the world would be a better place.

Love Matt Barry

Gross. Keep trademark trashvertisements out of our games.
Airfried@piefed.social · 13 pts · 1d
The only real difference between this type of advertising and running an ad on a website is that you can avoid the former extremely easily while actively having to block the latter if you take a single step out of federated territory. Besides, the game itself is already trademarked so yeah bit late for keeping that out.
sunsofold@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 1d
And? The point is that it's an ad, designed to manipulate people into thinking of ikea as being associated with fun and gaming, like it's a fun person, and not a corporation. It's a lie. Just because you aren't forced to fully take part in something doesn't make it somehow not malicious. You aren't forced to buy a slave. Does that make it acceptable that someone sells them?
0li0li@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d
Calm down bud, it's a mod. As much as I hate this myself, I'm quite happy it's for people to install themselves if they want.
Ssdly, it might be the start of a new plague that'll get pushed and normalized over the next 5 years...

I think your second paragraph is right. I disregarded the slipper slope of Horse Armor too. Its just a little fun extra, it won't spiral out of control...
sunsofold@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 5h
I'm calm. I'm not suggesting we go out in a mob and murder the mod makers and burn down their homes. But we should not ignore its harm simply because it isn't the most awful thing ever. Whether you are being stabbed with a sewing needle or a zweihander, it's not acceptable.
Zozano@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 4h
Okay, but if I have fun with my Matt Berry shelf in Skyrim, then Ikea simply are being associated with fun and gaming.
They're not manipulating me, manipulation implies deceit.
I know it's an ad. And you know what? I kinda dig it.
Meanwhile, we have kids eating trash to get a code to enter into roblox for digital currency.
There ARE manipulative ads.
This ain't one of them.
lol
lmao even

"Comparison" to slavery? You don't understand analogy. Please, return to education until you do. Analogy is a very basic skill. You should not be without it.
Yes, it is deceitful. All advertising is deceitful. It is inherent to advertising to be deceitful. You liking the form the deceit takes does not change the deceit, only how successfully you are being deceived.
Zozano@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3h
An analogy only functions in so far as it can map one thing to another. Analogies always break down at some point regarding relevancy. Here, it breaks down immediately because you're comparing an ad campaign for a book shelf to slavery. Seriously?
Analogies need to match the energy, you can't call your boss "literally Hitler" if they ask you to arrive on time.
^ this is a good example of an analogy, Hitler and slavery match energy, as do ad campaigns and arriving to work on time.
If this is deceit, then please tell me which specific truth is being concealed or misrepresented.
