is Denmark aware of this deal?

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 11h

Yes, but here the main news are about him agreeing not to have Greenland

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 48 pts · 11h (2 replies)

In Denmark the news are

"Trump agrees not to have Greenland" and in exchange gets what he's been offered from the start and more or less already had access to

diablicja@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 7h (1 reply)

Shhh, he cannot know

mPony@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 3h

oh, don't worry, he still doesn't know a goddamn thing

radiofreebc@lemmy.world · 38 pts · 16h

Same deal as they had post WW2. Nothing to see here, folks.

Smart move on Denmark because Trump is so stupid he will actually believe that he is in control of Greenland while Denmark probably got some sweet deal. It's literally been NATO protected for decades and hasn't changed even after this.

handing your little brother a game controller thats not plugged in so he'll stop bothering you while playing Zelda type energy

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 11h

I just hope they included a paragraph 5 involvement ad a condition

That said, am agreement with Trump is not really a binding agreement, the way it looks at the moment

In Danish news, the agreement is about Trump agreeing not to have Greenland

This is actually so shocking and pathetic from denmark. Apparently threatening your "allies" with invasion you cant following through with, works.

dudeface@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 14h (3 replies)

Pretty sure the US has a military presence there since the 40s, if they let Trump have a headline for nothing that is a pretty good success

P.S don’t tell Trump this is the case

minty@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 14h (2 replies)

This is more about how it looks for denmark, even if the agreement itself is trivial.

dudeface@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 14h

Most countries are educated enough to realise what I just said

We don’t really care what the American population thinks

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 11h

This basically looks quite silly for the USA

Trump agrees not to have Greenland, something he has been saying for years that he'll get one way on another.

In exchange here gets what he already had, and has been offered ever since he showed interest in Greenland. Access to military bases in Greenland. USA has that already and has been closing bases instead of opening more there

Malica@lemmy.zip · 14 pts · 15h

If it's true. He's been known to use the "just announce it to force them to agree" method before

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 11h

USA has ever since the cold war, had access to Greenland and to build as many bases as they wanted. Ever since Trump showed interest in Greenland and uses security concerns as his reasoning, this has been the reply fr both Denmark and Greenland

The news here in Denmark is basically thet Trump has agreed not to have Greenland and has been offered what he more or less already had

Authorities expect Trump to make a huge issue of this deal and are intentionally not being vocal about it. I believe that this is the best way to please Trump. Let him celebrate a big nothing without ruining the moment

CarstenBoll@feddit.dk · 2 pts · 13h

Dane here, for the past 25 years we've been trying to get more American involvement in arctic security regarding Greenland, so if this is just an agreement which ensures that - well, then we're happy.

Are you so dumb that you believe anything Turd says?

I imagine Denmark is royaly pissed that they can't have Russian bases, for example.

It's the usual Turd selling to the public that he wins when he's been totally fucked.

theacharnian@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 10h

I'm certain the Danes did what they thought was best and it seems the "deal" is a nothing burger anyway, but don't fool yourselves : placating the bully is a mistake and won't even work. The moment he feels like it, he'll renege. US signatures are written in pencil.
