Plenty of real world advertising deliberately uses "tonite." The fact that this is apparently socially acceptable is one of those damned things that makes my left eye twitch, along with the prolific (mis) usage of "thru" in similar applications.
Even more amazing, the song was propaganda to get people to use "hello" as the word you use to answer the telephone. As opposed to the vastly superior "ahoy."
