I thought Hun was a generic term like barbarian
TheOctonaut@mander.xyz · 14 pts · 2y
No, it was a specific tribe.
However there were "barbarian" tribes near China named the Dzungar and the Xiongu, both of which are a bit like "Hun" and either of which are suggested to perhaps be the eastern side of that same tribe.

Same two guys were just at Sycamore Gap in England, what a weird coincidence to get the same assignment twice!

The tourist-y parts of it are pretty much all newly rebuilt anyway; there's not much of the original wall left at Mutianyu or Simatai or wherever.
ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 2y
Now there's even less of the original wall.

Only a matter of time before it becomes the Ship of Theseus
DogMuffins@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 2y
The whole point of that dumb thought experiment is that it's already the Ship of Theseus and always was.

The Huns: finally!
Zippy@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 2y
So is it now 'The Pretty Good Walls of China'?
GreasyTengu@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 2y
'the adequate wall of China"
DJDarren@thelemmy.club · 4 pts · 2y
Given that you can now drive a truck through, I’d say it’s no longer adequate.
Zippy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y
Ya I like that but you missed 'walls' plural.

The lesser wall of China.

Two workers near the Great Wall go missing.

Willing to bet its death penalty for the workers and a bonus for the manager who ordered it to happen.

I can’t help but wonder that literally sounds like what happened the first episode of Attack on Titan.
Sir_Simon_Spamalot@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y
What are you talking about? It was the Collosal Titan that destroyed the wall, wasn't it?
stephen01king@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 2y
That's just what they tell you.

Not sure if you're joking, but someday in 2030, when they finish airing, I'll rewatch the complete series.

This just reminded me I was waiting for this argh.
SheeEttin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y
Shitty, but it also looks like that section of wall is just earthwork. Maybe a professional will chime in and say there's something valuable about it, but given that it's already mostly gone from erosion, I'm not sure if anything was actually lost here.

Pretty sure moving dirt isn't irreversible. Shitty thing to do though.

Oh no, not some old ass wall
lazylion_ca@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 2y
I dont understand how this wall is not considered an ecological disaster.
