I'm glad there's no karma, hopefully that'll mean less bots that steal posts, get loads of karma, then sell those accounts to people who use them to scam.

maegul@lemmy.ml · 11 pts · 3y

And, if you want to know if any of your posts or comments were well received, which is helpful and useful information, the upvotes it gets are still here.

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 3y

No being smart on the internet :(

Andreas@feddit.dk · 48 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Good riddance. The karma system on Reddit is worthless. It's supposed to let users flag spam and bot content, but it's used as an agree/disagree button in reality. Users still lose posting privileges from having low karma and have to farm it in "free upvotes" subreddits... which spammers and bots happily abuse.

Liz@midwest.social · 7 pts · 3y

That was actually something I used to help decide if an account was a bot or not, but it was only a minor part of the puzzle.

RussoBusso@lemmy.ml · 38 pts · 3y

Screw Karma, honestly a terrible system of promoting content to others.

comfy@lemmy.ml · 36 pts · 3y (3 replies)

You mean to tell me the worthless internet points ARE WORTHLESS NOW???

My reputation is ruined!

DestroyMegacorps@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 3y (2 replies)

WHATS GONNA HAPPEN TO MY BIG CHUNGUS 420 69 EPIC REDDIT KARMA????

comfy@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 3y

pls admin how do i transfer my karma to my new account ??/

Catweazle@social.vivaldi.net · 2 pts · 3y

@DestroyMegacorps @comfy, in the #fediverse there only exist #instant_karma, like in real life.

iod@lemmy.ml · 31 pts · 3y (6 replies)

Just track your own karma: go through all your comments each day and add the upvotes :P

spen@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 3y (5 replies)

The cool thing about federation is someone could add this to their own instance

hrimfaxi_work@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 3y

They can save themselves the effort. I already got a little notebook to do it manually.

iod@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y (3 replies)

hm. not sure if lemmy instance. any lemmy change would have to go into their main repo. not saying it can't happen(maybe added as an option) but something else like kbin would also work.

spen@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 3y (2 replies)

It’s libre, you can fork it and create your own if you want feature not in the main repo. “any lemmy change would have to go into their main repo” is not correct.

iod@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

ah sure. forking works. But then you'd have to always pull down changes from upstream and resolve conflicts, unless you don't plan to update and gain security fixes. Lots of work for just one change.

Lemmington@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 3y

Maybe a plugin API could address this

sina@lemmy.ml · 28 pts · 3y

The best thing about Lemmy is that people don't repost crap or act weird for fake internet points.

_s_@lemmy.ml · 24 pts · 3y (3 replies)

My very first comment. You should feel SPECIAL

LolaCat@beehaw.org · 8 pts · 3y

I am honored to bask in your golden light

CaptainAlchemy@lemmy.one · 4 pts · 3y

OwO

Dasnap@lemmy.ml · 21 pts · 3y

Just be happy that people enjoyed it!

Even if an account karma system was implemented, the federated nature of the site would make it easily exploitable/pointless anyway.

mercan@lemmy.ml · 19 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Me: goes to my profile and calculates karma basing on all my submissions

tmpod@lemmy.pt · 4 pts · 3y

it's a matter of time before someone makes a bot to do it x)

agamemnonymous@lemmy.ml · 14 pts · 3y (4 replies)

Take my upvote good sir

lightrush@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 3y (2 replies)

No awards to give either. Only upvotes left to give. So equitable. ☺️

naoseiquemsou@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I give you this award 🏆

Least based Lemmy user

SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y

Fun fact: Based is a reference to crack cocain, based being free basing!

7eter@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y (3 replies)

?🤔

Klaymore@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 3y (2 replies)

This meme format can be a bit confusing in this context. Since using Krita to make memes is based, by calling OP the "least based Lemmy user" he implies that all Lemmy users are even more based, especially compared to users of other social media platforms which he makes no such claims about.

7eter@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

i see - yes that confused me.. But more interestingly - I see itjust.works is up and running! Just read in a comment that the owner was looking for names. Seems like he found something good xD

Klaymore@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 3y

Yeah that's where I found the server lol. I was looking for a general server but didn't want to overload the main ones, and when this server got started up with this name I knew it was the one for me xD.

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y

yes

SparkIT@kbin.social · 8 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Meta - I'm too old to get this meme without wondering about the reading order Every. Single. Time. xD

sexy_peach@feddit.de · 5 pts · 3y

like a comic, top left, then top right, then bottom left, then bottom right.

Kyoyeou@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

Heh, jokes on you I'm a 2/5 guy, 2 Posts, 5 Comments and I'm going to keep flexible all the time that in at 2/5 and the others are only at 1/7 or somethingike this

hurricane155@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

automod removed what you were saying so let me guess what you meant: karma wh-res?

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 0 pts · 3y (10 replies)

let me test something:

removed

wh0re

wh0r3

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y (9 replies)

interesting, seems like it only blocks the correct spelling more tests:

crap

cr@p

shit

sh!t

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 3y (6 replies)

literal swear words aren't banned but wh0re is?

nachtigall@feddit.de · 10 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Swear words that are mainly used as interjections (shit, crap) aren't that bad IMO. Slurs like wh*re are usually targeted someone.

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 3y (2 replies)

karma wh0res deserve it

fluffman86@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 3y

I've also noticed that the appropriate term for a female canine is blocked. Dog is the term for a male canine.

sexy_peach@feddit.de · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

What's wrong with some fucking swear words?

SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y

Goddammit, I'm telling you, watch your fucking mouth! Swear-fucking-words are un-fucking-becoming of a Lemmy user!

Andreas@feddit.dk · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

No need to test the filter like that, the full list of banned words can be found in the code. This filter actually did some damage to Lemmy's reputation in 2020 as Lemmy was originally a closed community with strict moderation and little understanding of federation. The admins wanted a quick way to make lemmy.ml look unappealing to chaotic right-wing users. The filter is only present on this instance now, it's no longer hard-coded into all instances.

original_ish_name@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3y

the full list of banned words can be found in the code

But that's no fun

EDIT: also my mind doesn't come with a regex parser
