Got the news - I got the job!
Funny thing was, they were trying to call me all week but they thought I wasn't answering until they got through and found that they were calling the wrong number - it had somehow been entered wrong, so just as well I sent my resume through to the original person!
Just a few extra bits of paperwork and the induction next Thursday and then we'll see when I actually start (probably week after).
Well I spent all afternoon doing some online learning modules so I'll confine it to ice cream tonight, but I'm thinking some takeaway and bubbly tomorrow night.
My friend and I have yet to get together to celebrate the house sale so it'll be a double celebration!
I got approval from work to travel home during Christmas / NYs and work remotely so i'm going homeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to family. Best part is it's a surprise so i'll land home and surprise mfer my parents! So excited wooohoo!
Also hope that my organs are safe cuz im going via Scoot. An other airline was charging $1000 more so fk that 🤞
A bit of a ramble here. So you know when kids are young and they get asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" A doctor, a vet, a teacher. And your reply "well you can be anything you want to be".
Then they get a bit older and they still have those dreams so you have to let them down gently. A doctor maybe not. There's blood and guts involved and you're not really good with that kind of stuff are you? A vet. Well you've gotta shove your arm up a cow's rear end. I mean they give you a glove and all but still are you prepared for that? A teacher. Um yeah they get paid good but you gotta put up with arsehole children and their arsehole parents. Not enough pay for that.
Anyway after much consideration, my daughter would like to do something sciencey. That's cool. She has her heart set on uni. She's smart. Whatever makes her happy. My only question was "Does this mean you're not leaving home anytime soon because Mummy would like her sewing room back?" Her response "Have you seen the cost of houses lately? We are in a crisis. Nah it's probably best I stay here".
The thing is from the time she was little she has always wanted to do something sciencey. Sure shit changed along the way but she always had that as a goal and her mum and dad will support her no matter what. We are investing in her future so at least she can have one. I don't ever want her to leave home.
Agreed. The younger one in this equation has never had a full time job or a relationship counted beyond months. It’s kinda hard to detail, I met the knot when she was 12, almost nothing has changed.

I use Memmy on my iPhone and it gives me two options - upload via aussie.zone and upload via imgur. This particular img didn't upload via aussie.zone so I went with imgur. Hope that helps with your debugging!
I have been trying to figure out how you uploaded it to show the image and I can't replicate that, so I'm not sure how Memmy is doing the code. It will have to remain a mystery for now!
I has to be something to do with how Memmy saves the image on Imgur. I found the right link to the Imgur images so I can put in the coding for my own photo hosted on Imgur and it works fine, but any link to yours crashes Boost. I can open the picture in the app when it is a link, but it can't open it within the comments. No idea why, but I have at least narrowed it down!
Just this side. Mask off the door edges and handle, then roller on the paint. Put newspaper/cardboard under door to catch stray drips & splatter. Don't walk paint drips into the carpet. Damage never happened.

@bananafungus tbh everyone should be eligible for either shingles or chickenpox vaccine for free, because otherwise the scenario you are now in is going to crop up repeatedly for quite a while. I got shingles in my early 30s, and was lucky it wasn't painful, but realised as I'm now older it will get more common to crop up and I might not escape the neuropathy 😬
I didn't get any work done yesterday, but I did get started today - the trick was to tell myself I am good at what I do and people need me, and actually believe that for long enough to get the dopamine going. It probably helped that I caught up with someone from work yesterday. Stupid brain tricks, it's like working with a petulant child sometimes to just pay for a roof over my head
Unfortunately not removable. I can’t see or access it even with a tiny mirror on an extension, just smell the strong waft coming from the wall cavity through the hole under the wall heater. It’s too tight a space to see into.
I’ve reversed the air flow to blow the smell back into the wall a bit and have scrunched up some puppy pads to somewhat stuff the exit with, hopefully containing some of the smell.
A tissue dabbed with nilodor has been stuffed into a paper cup and a paper towel tied over the top so it can evaporate out but the cat can’t touch or lick the oil.
Ants outside the foundation are carrying away tiny pieces of something so while it will suck in the heat hopefully scavengers are right on it 🤞
Have had this happen, something dies in ceiling or under house. Not much can be done but wait it out. Could call a pest controller to come search for it to remove, but no guarantee they will be able to find it or access it. Open windows to air out, or some room spray or scented candles to mask to smell. It’s pretty horrid while the smell is there, you have my sympathies.
This is exactly what has happened, I just located it by nose. I’m pulling fresh air through and am using nilodor but the cross breeze just seems to be spreading it 🤢
Have you tried some of aussie freeze dried stuff? Ours go apeshit for salmon and chicken, not so much emu cookies but a mates cats happily took those right off our hands

A bit random. I see two possibilities here. One is that you are concerned for the safety of all those working under powerlines.
The second possibility is that you are in fact a serial killer, who will be targeting those walking while looking down at their phones. "Look up and live" is as much ultimatum as warning. In some obscure corner of the internet we will find a detailed manifesto where you explain these people have been infected with a social media-transmitted virus that turns them into phone zombies. You are trying to cleanse humanity of the virus before it is too late.
That would make sense. Now you point it out it does seem the most likely answer. But my explanation is much more fun and much better suited to a movie adaptation, so I'm sticking with it 🤣
The sequel will follow the police task force chasing after UMG, who was arrested at the end of the first movie, but has escaped from police custody. As well as attempting to recapture UMG, they will be caught up in a desperate race against time to rescue the victims - who it turns out have not been killed, but instead have been buried alive. Hoping a cure for the zombie virus could be found UMG buried the victims with a supply of food and air, but to prevent infected people being dug up before a cure was discovered the underground prisons have been boobie trapped. The only way to disarm the trap is to dial a special code to the victim's phone - if they start digging without the code or get it wrong it will set off gruesome boobie traps killing both the initial victim and the person digging.
There will be a further sequel too - Stop, Drop and Roll. It will have a completely different director though, who will take the franchise in the direction of dark comedy. In this one, it will become apparent that UMG is not actually insane and that the zombie virus is real. Because it is transmitted via communications lines the initial infection will focus on the emergency services communications staff, meaning the efforts to combat the virus must avoid all official channels. The protagonists are a group of young misfits who discover that marijuana provides immunity to the virus. They develop a plan to drug the food supply to save everyone, but in order to carry it out they must avoid being caught by anyone in any of the emergency services. They discover that infected people have extremely limited attention spans for anything not on their phones, so if they are spotted they stop moving, drop out of sight, and roll a joint. Obviously they have to carry out the entire plan completely stoned with frequent stops for snacks.

It depends on the cooker you have and what you're cooking. Like I have the shitty Kmart one that only cooks one way (there is a steamer but we don't use that as often as we should) so it would take maybe 15 to 30 minutes, and will cook everything the same no matter what you put in it. But the fancy ones that sing when it's done, Zojirushi, they do white rice, brown rice, short grain rice, congee, quinoa, porridge, slow cook, etc. they all have different cooking times.
So yeah, depends on the type of cooker and what kind of rice you're cooking, and how much of it too.
Mine has a "quick" cycle that is something like 40 minutes. The quality cycle is about an hour (it can be adjusted for both preferences in taste and for different varieties of rice).
I only have a 30 minute 11am meeting today so it'll be good to get out in the sun. I might pop over to IKEA and have a poke around. I haven't been for a couple of years and I need some new tea towels anyway so that's a good enough excuse. Get me some meatballs with loganberry sauce or whatever that weirdo berry is, and gravy.

I appear to have discovered a new method for sprouting stubborn seeds: give up and order seeds of a different variety. Knowing there is competition on the way could just do the trick. It appears to have worked for my artichoke seeds, anyway.

Ok here's my story of moths. My mum has this rule. Do not leave clothes on the line overnight. No exceptions. Why, because black clothes attract moths. I think of this often, as my kids either ride or catch the bus and this is considered weird today. When I was a kid, there were hundreds of bikes in the racks. Today, there might be 20, usually fewer. Maybe a dozen kids are on the bus. But try and get a car near the school and you'll be in a queue. They all get dropped off/picked up these days.
Can confirm this. During primary school we walked or rode our bikes (4 sibs). Getting dropped off in a car meant you had a broken leg/foot. Secondary school I was at a boarding school. On weekends we'd pick up a sandwich lunch from the school kitchen and get on our bikes and go for a long ride. Had to be back by sunset for rollcall. No supervision. The miracle was that we didn't get in trouble - not even close. Couldn't do that nowadays - the school authorities would be screaming and so would the parents. We'd also take one of the school dinghies and go fishing all day - the kitchen took the loot and served it up for breakfast the next day.
The need to supervise children every waking minute of their lives has reached fairly absurd proportions. I while ago I was reading about a "walking school bus" program designed to get kids walking to school instead of being driven. It was facing closure because of lack of funding. The idea that walking to school is something that needs both a special program and funding is just wrong in so many ways.
I don't know how we managed to get from children being able to run around mostly unsupervised to a society in which people will call 000 because they see a teenager sitting in a car without an adult, but we have.
It boggles the mind. My parents were pretty tight, and I still walked multi km to the trainstation. What they would’ve been like with the tracking and helicopter options available now is terrifying.
I was dropped off in the morning, but would either catch the bus or walk home. Mostly I walked, as spending money on lollies on the way home seemed a better option than spending it on bus fare.
That was in the days you could choose your lollies individually - prices at that time ranged from 2 for one cent for things like chocolate freckles up to 2c a lollie for some fancy things. Or you could just let them choose by ordering mixed lollies - 20c of mixed lollies was a pretty standard amount.
I'm old enough to remember going to my friend's place in Dubai (where I grew up) and her mum would take us to the Laser Disc rental store to borrow movies. Or I guess I'm old enough to remember Dubai when it was pretty much mostly sand!
I’m a little late to this today due to things but I still remember the Commodore 64 and making my own mix music tapes with the good old cassette player.
Fancy. We had a Tandy 16k. Which was upgraded to 64k. We had fancy acessories though - namely a good old cassette player. Before we got that we had a book of programs we would hand type, but if you turned it off or lost power everything was lost. The tape player was a game changer, you could save programs you had typed out, and get copies of things other people had done - the birth of illegal sharing right there.
Hunting nappy bins at the moment. For zee cat litter. Turns out when you live in a house that isn't basically an open tent you can smell the turdbucket. Anyone rec? We're looking at nappy bins for the scent control, will just hold pee cakes, and we want to be able to put our own sugar spun garbage bags in, none of that tomee tippy individual baggy shit.
three cats, one with renal issues so he pisses like a firehose. We have a bukket, but it's rapidly depreciating in value :/ Also a pain when we do the weekly complete-empty-scrubdown of the boxxen.
so looking for higher volume better stank containment. The new place has the laundry / litter box on a western facing side of the house so it's kinda accelerating matters, even with religious cleaning and enzyme spray
If you are already using enzyme spray I’ve not much to offer. There is an Indoor biscuit that reduces stink poo slightly, but that won’t work if your culprit is on renal food.
Nappy buckets are thicker and better quality. They are made to keep shit in. Literally. They are smell proof. I still have one 17 years later and use it to soak sheets and clothes in it.

Well the funeral for my grandma was today.
It was an emotional day. I’m glad my friend came with me today to lend me some emotional support.
The eulogies were really hard to get through, more so for the speakers.
It was open casket so I got to see her and say good bye to her one last time.
I’m ready for a rest after today.

I use Memmy on my iPhone and it gives me two options - upload via aussie.zone and upload via imgur. This particular img didn't upload via aussie.zone so I went with imgur. Hope that helps with your debugging!

I has to be something to do with how Memmy saves the image on Imgur. I found the right link to the Imgur images so I can put in the coding for my own photo hosted on Imgur and it works fine, but any link to yours crashes Boost. I can open the picture in the app when it is a link, but it can't open it within the comments. No idea why, but I have at least narrowed it down!

Just this side. Mask off the door edges and handle, then roller on the paint. Put newspaper/cardboard under door to catch stray drips & splatter. Don't walk paint drips into the carpet. Damage never happened.

In my experience signs don't get read.
We even have a big red notice on our office door at work not to knock (we are IT, but not end-user support, there's a whole team for that). Knocking/thumping/banging on the door is an almost daily occurrence when someone can't work out how to unmute their Zoom meeting...
Thankfully we have permission to tell them to take a hike but it's still annoying!

I'm planning to get the shingles vaccine as soon as my GP gets stock, the rules changed on Nov 1st and now some are eligible for free. I don't think I am but it's meant stock has got stretched =p

@bananafungus tbh everyone should be eligible for either shingles or chickenpox vaccine for free, because otherwise the scenario you are now in is going to crop up repeatedly for quite a while. I got shingles in my early 30s, and was lucky it wasn't painful, but realised as I'm now older it will get more common to crop up and I might not escape the neuropathy 😬

Unfortunately not removable. I can’t see or access it even with a tiny mirror on an extension, just smell the strong waft coming from the wall cavity through the hole under the wall heater. It’s too tight a space to see into.
I’ve reversed the air flow to blow the smell back into the wall a bit and have scrunched up some puppy pads to somewhat stuff the exit with, hopefully containing some of the smell.
A tissue dabbed with nilodor has been stuffed into a paper cup and a paper towel tied over the top so it can evaporate out but the cat can’t touch or lick the oil.
Ants outside the foundation are carrying away tiny pieces of something so while it will suck in the heat hopefully scavengers are right on it 🤞

Have had this happen, something dies in ceiling or under house. Not much can be done but wait it out. Could call a pest controller to come search for it to remove, but no guarantee they will be able to find it or access it. Open windows to air out, or some room spray or scented candles to mask to smell. It’s pretty horrid while the smell is there, you have my sympathies.

The sequel will follow the police task force chasing after UMG, who was arrested at the end of the first movie, but has escaped from police custody. As well as attempting to recapture UMG, they will be caught up in a desperate race against time to rescue the victims - who it turns out have not been killed, but instead have been buried alive. Hoping a cure for the zombie virus could be found UMG buried the victims with a supply of food and air, but to prevent infected people being dug up before a cure was discovered the underground prisons have been boobie trapped. The only way to disarm the trap is to dial a special code to the victim's phone - if they start digging without the code or get it wrong it will set off gruesome boobie traps killing both the initial victim and the person digging.
There will be a further sequel too - Stop, Drop and Roll. It will have a completely different director though, who will take the franchise in the direction of dark comedy. In this one, it will become apparent that UMG is not actually insane and that the zombie virus is real. Because it is transmitted via communications lines the initial infection will focus on the emergency services communications staff, meaning the efforts to combat the virus must avoid all official channels. The protagonists are a group of young misfits who discover that marijuana provides immunity to the virus. They develop a plan to drug the food supply to save everyone, but in order to carry it out they must avoid being caught by anyone in any of the emergency services. They discover that infected people have extremely limited attention spans for anything not on their phones, so if they are spotted they stop moving, drop out of sight, and roll a joint. Obviously they have to carry out the entire plan completely stoned with frequent stops for snacks.

It depends on the cooker you have and what you're cooking. Like I have the shitty Kmart one that only cooks one way (there is a steamer but we don't use that as often as we should) so it would take maybe 15 to 30 minutes, and will cook everything the same no matter what you put in it. But the fancy ones that sing when it's done, Zojirushi, they do white rice, brown rice, short grain rice, congee, quinoa, porridge, slow cook, etc. they all have different cooking times.
So yeah, depends on the type of cooker and what kind of rice you're cooking, and how much of it too.

Mine has a "quick" cycle that is something like 40 minutes. The quality cycle is about an hour (it can be adjusted for both preferences in taste and for different varieties of rice).

I was shown an ad to an electric note device. You write by touch and erase by pressing a single button. Reviews said accidental writing and erasing happened often, and once the battery runs out there's no way to use it anymore. Games were so much simpler then. I had one called pyramid, which was entirely text based and you typed commands like "walk left" or "pickup torch" to navigate through the pyramid. It was a fairly short and simple puzzle game, but because there was no internet with walkthroughs if you got stuck it took literally years before I figured it out. (stuck in a maze of twisting passages, all alike).

I had one like that on my Amstrad. His name was Alan and he was in tunnel. You gave Alan commands and he answered back. Sometimes Alan didn't do as he's told. I got pissed off. I typed in Fuck you Alan. You're a dumb cunt. Alan replied back "You shouldn't talk to Alan like that". Alan stopped working after that. Alan is still stuck in the tunnel.

Dot matrix printers! Remember the ones that had to have paper with holes in the side to feed it through - it would be joined together with perforations, and you had to tear off the sides and separate each sheet of paper.

I remember when public transport was divided into local neighbourhoods, and the bus driver would use a hole punch to mark the date and time. Sometimes they'd punch the wrong place and you'd get an extra day free.

Ok here's my story of moths. My mum has this rule. Do not leave clothes on the line overnight. No exceptions. Why, because black clothes attract moths. When I moved out of home, l left my clothes out thinking my mum was just paranoid. The very first item I pick off, a dirty big fucking moth flew right into my face. Never again.

I remember when kids made their own way to school. Most rode, some caught busses or walked. Very few were dropped off.
I think of this often, as my kids either ride or catch the bus and this is considered weird today. When I was a kid, there were hundreds of bikes in the racks. Today, there might be 20, usually fewer. Maybe a dozen kids are on the bus. But try and get a car near the school and you'll be in a queue. They all get dropped off/picked up these days.

Can confirm this. During primary school we walked or rode our bikes (4 sibs). Getting dropped off in a car meant you had a broken leg/foot. Secondary school I was at a boarding school. On weekends we'd pick up a sandwich lunch from the school kitchen and get on our bikes and go for a long ride. Had to be back by sunset for rollcall. No supervision. The miracle was that we didn't get in trouble - not even close. Couldn't do that nowadays - the school authorities would be screaming and so would the parents. We'd also take one of the school dinghies and go fishing all day - the kitchen took the loot and served it up for breakfast the next day.

The need to supervise children every waking minute of their lives has reached fairly absurd proportions. I while ago I was reading about a "walking school bus" program designed to get kids walking to school instead of being driven. It was facing closure because of lack of funding. The idea that walking to school is something that needs both a special program and funding is just wrong in so many ways.
I don't know how we managed to get from children being able to run around mostly unsupervised to a society in which people will call 000 because they see a teenager sitting in a car without an adult, but we have.

I was dropped off in the morning, but would either catch the bus or walk home. Mostly I walked, as spending money on lollies on the way home seemed a better option than spending it on bus fare.
That was in the days you could choose your lollies individually - prices at that time ranged from 2 for one cent for things like chocolate freckles up to 2c a lollie for some fancy things. Or you could just let them choose by ordering mixed lollies - 20c of mixed lollies was a pretty standard amount.

Fancy. We had a Tandy 16k. Which was upgraded to 64k. We had fancy acessories though - namely a good old cassette player. Before we got that we had a book of programs we would hand type, but if you turned it off or lost power everything was lost. The tape player was a game changer, you could save programs you had typed out, and get copies of things other people had done - the birth of illegal sharing right there.

Hunting nappy bins at the moment. For zee cat litter. Turns out when you live in a house that isn't basically an open tent you can smell the turdbucket. Anyone rec? We're looking at nappy bins for the scent control, will just hold pee cakes, and we want to be able to put our own sugar spun garbage bags in, none of that tomee tippy individual baggy shit.

so looking for higher volume better stank containment. The new place has the laundry / litter box on a western facing side of the house so it's kinda accelerating matters, even with religious cleaning and enzyme spray

If you are already using enzyme spray I’ve not much to offer. There is an Indoor biscuit that reduces stink poo slightly, but that won’t work if your culprit is on renal food.

Nappy buckets are thicker and better quality. They are made to keep shit in. Literally. They are smell proof. I still have one 17 years later and use it to soak sheets and clothes in it.
