Washington has Tillicum and Georgia has Cumming. This map was not well thought out

ArtificialLink@lemmy.ca · 11 pts · 2y

I love Cumming, ^GA

grue@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

North Dakota had better have absolutely nothing else even slightly risque, in order to have any hope of justifying its theft of GA's rightful entry.

CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 30 pts · 2y (3 replies)

"Tulsa" is just "a slut" spelled backwards.

AccmRazr@lemm.ee · 11 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Yeah but Oklahoma has a small town called Peggs

spicytuna62@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2y

We have plenty of funny town names here, but my favorites are Hooker, Slapout, Stringtown, and Hoot Owl.

Ithi@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 2y

"Peggs" is just "Sggep" spelled backwards.

ares35@kbin.social · 23 pts · 2y (1 reply)

it takes less than two hours to get from bonesteel to gayville.

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2y

That's what I like to hear

TheBlue22@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 23 pts · 2y (3 replies)

I refuse to believe there is a town in America called Rough&Ready

Kolanaki@yiffit.net · 21 pts · 2y (1 reply)

I was literally there today 🤣

We also have a city in this state by the name of "City of Industry." Not simply "Industry" but "City of Industry." And "Carmel by the Sea" as opposed to just "Carmel" or "Carmel by the Dumpster Fire off 99."

TheBlue22@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 2y

Thats crazy. I mean my country has some goofy names for small towns and villages but this takes it to another level entirely

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y
Sentinian@lemmy.one · 23 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Only Ohio would have pee pee township lmao

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Pee pee is my favorite township

MegaTony@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 2y (3 replies)

What about Cumming, GA

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 2y (1 reply)

I'm guessing it's because the map already has Cummings.

grue@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 2y

But Butts isn't even a town; it's a county.

This map is wack. It should be Cumming!

cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 2y

men can never seem to find it

bbpolterGAYst@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 16 pts · 2y (1 reply)

the states containing Dry Wood and Lubers are bordering each other, yet the wood remains dry

MycelialMass@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Curious

superduperenigma@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Bigbone, KY is home to a nice state park called Big Bone Lick.

MethodicalSpark@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

They have Bison. Went there a few weeks ago. Pretty cool park!

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

That's the best lick I've heard of.

Zink@programming.dev · 2 pts · 2y

And if we’re going with parks there’s world famous Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, PA! (as in Punxsutawney Phil and Groundhog Day)

outer_spec@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 14 pts · 2y (1 reply)

“Cozy corner” isn’t actually that bad of a town name

bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 2y

At night, it becomes wanker's corner

MycoBro@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 2y

There is a Gross Tête, Louisiana too

soupyc@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 2y (5 replies)

Napo'opo'o isn't 'Na poo poo'

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

That makes perfect sense

TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Americans understand glottal stops challenge (improbable 💪)

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 2y

We use them all the time but we're generally unaware of it. Like in "uh-oh".

That's leaving aside that Hawaiians ARE Americans, thanks to the Dole fruit company.

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 2y

Right.

Leaving out the ʻokina and kahakō changes the sound significantly. The ʻokina represents a glottal stop, the sound in the middle of "uh-oh". In Hawaiian, it's a letter of the alphabet. The kahakō (macron, the horizontal line over a vowel) means the vowel is long - as in pronounced for a beat longer. What we call long and short vowels in English should be considered different vowels because they are different sounds.

Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopʻo

Is

Hohh nah oo nah oo Nahh pohh ohp oh

It's hard to transcribe, I hope that's of interest to someone. He haumana a ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi au. I'm still early in my learning.

OKULTRA@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 11 pts · 2y

Sewer_King@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2y

Goochland, Virginia is underrepresented here.

mercury@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 2y

there are more lewd souding towns in Virginia than short pump

JaymesRS@literature.cafe · 10 pts · 2y (1 reply)

They choose Kiester over Gaylord, Moorhead (morehead), or Climax‽

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Tbf Climax was already on the map. Moorhead is pretty good though

Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social · 10 pts · 2y (1 reply)

The road from Blue Ball to Paradise runs through Intercourse.

QuincyPeck@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

As it should.

mister_flibble@lemm.ee · 9 pts · 2y

Tbf it's technically just part of a town and not an actual town but there is Mianus CT

signor@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Mary’s Igloo is too much for me.

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Yeah it's a quality igloo

Waluigis_Talking_Buttplug@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

Bald Knob Arkansas is way more lewd than Weiner

DerArzt@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

I don't know man, I live in Iowa and we have balltown and cumming (not sure which is better)

Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 2y

I mean, Dry Wood is good for Kansas, but Seaman also makes a strong showing as does Great Bend and Cawker City.

tamal3@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

What is Humptulips...

BaronVonBort@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Glaze City, TX should be a contender as well.

its_the_new_style@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 2y

Ding Dong or Bangs I think are both better too

GraniteM@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Vermont has also Essex Junction, Proctor, Middlesex, Shaftsbury, and Hardwick.

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

Shaftsbury is pretty good

riodoro1@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

They're just tired of it probably

Adori@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Oh god essex really has gone through a new meaning

timelighter@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

ZeroTHM@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Is no one gonna talk about Splunge?

TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee · 4 pts · 2y

Oh, PA probably gets way weirder than Intercourse.

Also doesn't MI have Exit 69: Big Beaver Rd? Also there's Hell, MI. Those are both way better than Dick, MI.
