Tbf TOS era male Klingons didn't look too different from humans either

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Yeah, but they worked a little harder.

The dirty truth is that almost all sci-fi "aliens" look a hell of a lot like humans.

Zellith@kbin.social · 14 pts · 2y

Or humans look a lot like sci fi aliens.

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 2y

Clint Howard is still the scariest looking alien ever depicted on TV.

They really didn't give much direction at all on how Klingons should look back then. The actor and makeup artist basically came up with it on the spot.

Pretty much all Star Trek aliens are just human from the mouth downwards.

Female Klingons are ladies from Dublin, noted. They even share the orange fake tan.

I always assumed it was a comparison between the West and the USSR. One could swap the populations and few would notice. It was a culture and leadership thing.

In Next Gen the USSR was gone, so they no longer needed that angle.

This is all assumption though.

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 2y (6 replies)

A lot of people think that's what it was.

That said, TNG started in 1997 1987 and the USSR collapsed in 1991.

joyjoy@lemm.ee · 16 pts · 2y (2 replies)

So you're saying TNG caused the collapse of the Soviet Union?

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 2y (1 reply)

...

Yes.

Yes I am.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y

Yeah but by '87 the writing was definitely on the wall for the USSR

Gregorech@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Anticorp@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

The Klingons are modeled after Japanese feudal society.
