Nice. My only suggestion is to check whether the data is actually gone in a week or so.. Mine got undeleted multiple times, not all at once, post by post, day by day... Now I've edited coments instead.
That shit must be gross violation of GDPR. Fuck /u/Spez

I see “fuck u/Spez” and I upvote

I always mention that spez moderated the jailbait subreddit instead of saying fuck spez.
Bushwhack@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
Spez would like that though. Don’t give him that satisfaction. 🤣

Me too man, me too

Yeah that's why I had the script set to edit first then delete
All done, deleted user account as well

Can you link to the source?
I used PowerDeleteSuite which kinda do the same thing but its browser-based

Link is listed below: https://github.com/x89/Shreddit
I’m a software engineer by trade so adapting this was trivial
Heastes@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y
Shreddit is great. Have been using it in docker for ages to periodically remove comments that are older than a certain amount of time.
What did you have to adapt, though?
cerberus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y
3sec timeout issues, removing extraneous code, more efficiency, ability to run locally rather that using pip, some dependency issues
Heastes@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y
Interesting, is your fork available publicly or was that just a personal project?
cerberus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y
You’re the first to ask so I’ll make a fork and send you the link!
Magister@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y
I'm using Redact, it worked pretty well!
kaotic@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 3y
When I get around to doing this I’m going to use a list of random quotes. Reddit is shadow banning comments that say fuck spez.

"Never"
"Gonna"
"Give"
"You"
"Up"...

How does this work? Is it a python script that runs on a local machine?
tgxn@lemmy.tgxn.net · 6 pts · 3y
looks like it! I wonder if he's using frontend API calls to achieve this.

Nice! Glad to see it still works.
nbdy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
It uses praw under the hood.

Glad I'm not the only one who made such a script
Mine said "so long and thanks for all the fish" but was pretty amateurish and who knows if you can even run it for free anymore
SinningStromgald@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y
We can only hope Spez sits on rusty forks everytime he sits down.

why have it delete tho?
JackLSauce@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y
So it can't be used as an engagement metric. They'll still feed it into data models and whatnot
fogetaboutit@programming.dev · 3 pts · 3y
do you get in trouble with rate limiting? I don't use reddit myself, just curious.
cerberus@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y
I built in some 2 second sleeps because the OG shreddit script hit rate limits easily
someguy3@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 3y
Edit and delete like it says, or edit?
cerberus@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y
script edits and then deletes post for historical purposes
