I'd 90% a game and then put it down. Beating a game bummed me out like leaving a friend's house after a long fun sleepover. So I'd usually wait till the sequel was announced or available before I'd finish out a title as a way to get hyped for the new release.

ADHD likey helped us in the wild , but hinders us in a society that needs to eek out every bit of cognitive ability to be harnessed by a very rigid system that is very opinionated about how we can contribute. Back then there was probably less incentive to deny your natural affinities instead of something more lucrative. As an ADHD'r I see something familiar in the journals of Davinci, but also in the eyes of the gold rush 49ers.

Also because we are more beholden to the intrusive inclinations of our natural body signals something like a bought of famine might be more traumatizing for an ADHD'r back when trauma was still a valuable survival technique.

I haven't messed with Debian in a while but I remember the install being a hassle for all of my devices. But in my experience when I go to compile something I have to tediously update scores of libraries as dependency issues metastisize throughout the system. At some point I think to my self "who am I an Ubuntu developer or something?" and I go download some upstream distro like Ubuntu or PopOS.

on how to keep doing something? · c/adhd · 1 pts · 274d

Making something so routine that you don't think about it. Like getting ready for work. Build it into your life. Make it a distraction. Get rid of start up barriers that make it difficult to get started. Make it to where you don't expect to reach the goal. Put all the distractions together so you can switch between them seamlessly. Lean in to the ADHD. Make it so that once you reach your goal your not only surprised but also kinda sad it's over.
