Yeah, I wish this was the case. I don't think that under Anthropic's prior ruling at least, that it would be allowed though, since after donating to the library (assuming they non-destructively scanned the books) they would then have to discard the entire set of digital copies they made, as that would mean they copied the work, and thus didn't engage in a legal "transformation" of that work that maintains only one copy, and thus there would be no reason for them to do it in the first place.
I wish our copyright law could at least consider a donation to a library as equivalent to destruction of a work so companies could keep a scan but not have it be considered a copy. That way at least we'd be getting the giant influx of books going to libraries from AI training bs.

I looked it up further, and while I've seen some people claim they're using rare books, as far as I can tell that's just based on a single bookseller saying that some of the books he distributed to ISBNdb (which the AI companies are buying through) were "rare or out of print", but he didn't provide any details on what those books were or how rare they were exactly, and he's also the only source I've seen for that entire claim, so I'm not really sure how common that would actually be if he's literally the one single person they could find who sold rare books to them.
Regardless, I still obviously am not a fan of that happening, I'd much rather that those books could be archived, even if that meant destruction but then digitizing them in, say, the Internet Archive instead, but at the end of the day I just wanted people to know that there wasn't exactly no reason for them doing it the way they are. It's not just malice for the hell of it, they got a court order that said how they could do it legally, so they did.

A judge said it was fair use when they purchased and solely used the books for AI training without redistributing them or a copy of them afterwards, so they're just doing that in order to not get sued again. Not much more to it.

As far as I'm aware, Redlib gets around blocks in two ways. The partially implemented client-side blocks I presume are by just stripping the code (e.g. seeing the post but it's greyed out and has a popup saying "sign in" in front of it, or when your whole screen is a login page but all the actual content was already loaded in the background, deleting that code means you can read the post just fine)
And the rest is just tricking Reddit by mimicking the request format & behavior of the Android Reddit app, which tricks Reddit into believing the user is supposed to be allowed access or shouldn't be rate limited, because obviously anybody using the app is a real signed-in user... I guess? (this information is from their GitHub page's README but I'm not sure exactly how all this works under the hood)

For example, on the Pixel 10 Pro it'll cost you $120 to add 256 GB of storage (going from the 256 GB option to 512 GB option), and on the iPhone 17 it'll cost you $200 for the same jump.
A name-brand Sandisk 256 GB micro SD card costs about 60 bucks right now, or anywhere from half to less than third of the upgrade price. You could buy a 1 TERABYTE Micro SD card from Sandisk for less than Apple charges for 256 GB, and even if the $120 price from Google was your limit, you could still buy 512 GB of additional storage and have money left over.
And of course as someone else already mentioned, you don't have to get rid of your old storage media when you swap phones if it's on a portable Micro SD card, so you don't have to pay more money for storage every single time you get a new phone. Not only is it cheaper on its own, but it's also a less frequent purchase.

I like Cleveland Clinic's description, though I wouldn't say it's prescriptive to everyone with ADHD/Autism or that it will always be the same way for those who do experience it.
Autism . Interoception accuracy (how correct you are at identifying feelings) is low. For example, it might be hard for you to regulate or express your emotions. You might also have trouble identifying bodily needs, like hunger.
ADHD . Interoception attention (how often you notice signals) is strong but you may have trouble acting on those signals. For example, you feel thirsty but can’t decide what you want to drink.
It could be that you simply don't even notice your body saying you have to eat or go to the bathroom because you're hyperfocused on something, you mix up hunger with thirst, or it could be that you notice but can't bring yourself to do something about it.
Either way, ADHD and Autism can both affect how you understand the state of your body. That is not the same as your impulse control, desires, cravings, or planning skills. You can listen to your body saying it's hungry, be tempted to get the high-dopamine cookies out, but make a sandwich instead.
Listening to your body is NOT the same as doing exactly what your brain wants. That doesn't necessarily mean it's easy or always possible to actually do what's best for yourself when your brain is actively working against you, but I think that painting listening to your body as something that fundamentally means giving up control to your impulses is just plain reductive and stupid.
If anything, choosing not to listen to your body can mean you don't listen to signals that could prevent those unwanted behaviors. For the longest time I just ate as many treats as I could because I felt as though I couldn't stop myself, and eating sugar just felt too good, until I eventually realized that it always gave me a stomachache and made me feel sluggish, so now I can more readily stop myself by comparing my current state (no treat, feeling fine) with my possible future state (momentary treat, stomachache for the rest of the day), and decide that maybe I shouldn't have my 10th cookie of the day 💀
I spent YEARS putting myself through pain while overeating unhealthy food because I simply didn't pay enough attention to my body to realize that I didn't always feel this way... until I began overeating treats that day. And now that I'm medicated, if I don't pay attention to my body, I won't realize I should be hungry and I won't eat food until the evening when I've been running off 400 calories all day.
For people with ADHD, you're just effectively bringing certain brain chemical levels (or your brain's response to existing chemicals) to a more typically normal baseline.
For people without ADHD, your levels are already typically normal, so now you're just getting high as fuck.
To me it seems like they're really pushing for mass-market appeal right now compared to just maintaining or slowly growing their existing more dedicated/niche base.
You can see it with them adding widgets, a free VPN, more visibly advertising trackers blocked (at least on Android, not sure about iOS), rebranding with a new mascot, and now going back to a platform that still has a ton of user lock-in keeping people there. They're trying to pull in regular people, I presume so they don't become as dependent on a base that has more strongly held convictions that Mozilla has to comply with to keep its users.
If it works out for them, it'll be good for their long-term funding and security, market appeal, etc, but bad for users that care a lot more about fundamental principles.
For the USB one I don't think it even has the ability to use WiFi in any way, but it seems you might need to install their drivers to then locally be able to set the label size within a system dialog. In my experience, at least for the wireless one, it doesn't necessarily require its own drivers to work, as it works with Windows' built-in printer drivers, and worked well enough for me on Fedora Linux. (But you might have issues with stuff printing in the wrong orientation and have to account for that by rotating your files before printing)
For the wireless one, I think you'll need at least some form of network no matter what, at least for setup. (I do want to clarify though that you can still use the wireless one with a wired cable to send files to print to it, and as far as I can tell that works even if WiFi is off) They really want you to use the app, but since it really is just another way to access the web UI, they do also just have a guide on how to do it without the app.
I set mine up on my WiFi network that does have internet access, but theoretically since the UI is on a local IP it should be able to work on an isolated VLAN or something similar where no actual link to the Internet exists and it's just a LAN, but I have no clue if it tries to connect to a server anywhere on startup before allowing anything else to happen, so your mileage may vary. It's unfortunately not something I've tested for.
It also has an option to check for updates, I presume to fix any bugs or future potential exploits, but I've never seen my printer update once in nearly a year of owning it. (As far as I can tell this setting can't be disabled, all you can change is if it prints a label to tell you when it updates)
Regardless, as mentioned previously, it should be able to function in terms of just the printing itself with just a cable and no access to the internet afterwards, so you could always set it up on WiFi, add all the page sizes you want, then disconnect it from your network and only use it over USB and it should work fine :)
You can change its IPv4 and IPv6 address/netmask/gateway/prefix length, DNS servers, and hostname in settings, install a custom TLS certificate, etc if any of that helps.
Also, you can change the default print settings, which I personally very much recommend. Depending on what you're printing, you might want to increase the print quality or darkness, particularly if you print a lot of labels in succession that might otherwise start printing a little more faded on the lighter settings.
