I've worked for a Steel Company in that part of Arkansas before. In my experience what drove companies to move there were:

  • Lax environmental regulations
  • Access to the Mississippi river for raw materials
  • Cheap electricity from local coal and gas plants
  • Anti Union state and local governments
  • Tax incentives from the state and local governments

Wages weren't really bad from what I remember. Many jobs starting at $80k, with good production bonus incentives. Though the work was often very physical with long working hours.

Out of curiosity, is this image from Missouri? I swear I've seen that exact billboard ad on both I-70 and I-55.

Normally I'm not a commenter, but reading this article made me cringe harder and harder as the article went on. Never have I seen someone so self confident in the decisions they made that are potentially going to ruin their own life. She was so happy to tell us how anti trans she was and still is, but she complains that her anti trans advocacy is now leading to discrimination against her. Truly a prefect leopard eating face moment. Hell, it seems like she still supports the leopard, despite her head being in it's mouth.

I don't believe that theory. How does an ISP impact the functionality of a voting machine, especially when they have paper copies of the ballots? It's not like they were running SpaceX software on the machine, just using it as an Internet connection to report results to a centralized database. Conspiracies like this are what we fought against in 2020, when the QAnon fools thought Hugo Chavez and Dominion stole the election from Trump.

I'm with you, it's really disappointing seeing it get this bad. It feels like Missouri has been trying it's hardest to catch up to Texas and Florida, in fighting the culture war. Example: one of the Republican candidates for governor wants to get rid of the state's department of education.

It's not cool to generalize a whole region like that. You act as if the whole Midwest is a hive mind.
