This article reminded me to check deflock.me where I found that in the last 90 days my city finally got a Flock camera. There's only one but I've been driving by the damn thing every day on my way to work without realizing it.

I'd like to know whose responsible for it; City, County, or State but regardless I now have a decision to make.

No but at least the data isn't being immediately uploaded to Meta / Google / Apple or whatever for storage and processing.

If they are Open Source it also opens the door for some kind of control device that a person could have that broadcasts a "Do Not Record" signal that could in theory prevent Open Source glasses from recording in your presence. That kind of thing will never happen with Commercial / For Profit glasses.

You've never used an LLM against an MCP server with a properly built API. The ad hoc shit you can do is amazing.

Imagine you are managing 1,500 endpoints. A mix of Windows (both clients and servers), Mac, and Linux. Now imagine that one day there's a CVSS 10.0 in Eclipse Temurin 17 and you suddenly need to know everywhere it's installed and which precise 17.x version.

You could spend all damn day fussing with SQL -or- you could fire up $LLM and tell it "Give me a report showing all installed instances of Temurin below version 17.3. Sorted by endpoint type and operating system".

Suddenly want to know how many windows workstations haven't rebooted in more than 14 days? You can do that and get an answer in not much more time than it takes you to type the question.

Suddenly need to change a setting in 15 different Microsoft Tenancies? Snap, it's done.

LLMs are NOT magic bullets but they are useful for WAY more than what you listed. You just don't know that because you don't do that kind of work.

The idea of putting Cameras on City Vehicles and using AI to find problems, including Code Enforcement issues, is a good one IMO. The problem, as the article notes, is what that data is going to be used for in the future. We used to call this a Slippery Slope argument but the past 10 years have proven that if data is harvested that it will eventually be misused; it's some kind of parallel to Godwin's Law that I am going to coin as "Flock's Law".

In this specific instance Flock's Law tells us that the authorities will inevitably start scanning the photos / videos for people in order to track movements, the Police will be in the database stalking people, and you'll start getting tickets for over-filling your trash can.

Meanwhile all people really want, and what won't happen, is someone to come by to get that absolutely jungle of a lawn mowed, fix a broken sidewalk, replace a missing street sign, or move the damn boat / camper / trailer / junk car that has been parked in the street for the last year.

The only way to stop or reverse this is to get conservative capitalists out of our government.

So basically everyone including the Democratic Socialist Mayor of Seattle.

...so the next actionable step is to vote for and support socialists...

On the east Coast the formerly fiery Mamdani has gone silent on this issue since becoming Mayor.

I can find examples of this kind of thing from all over the United States. I'm using Mayors Wilson and Mamdani because they directly refute the idea that "Socialists" will stop this. They clearly will not.

Hot rivers cannot cool down a nuclear reactor.

The reactor(s) don't care if the water is 20c or 30c so they don't shut down the plant(s) because the river is too hot to cool them. They shut them down because the output water becomes so hot that it kills flora and fauna.

Ghost guns are not even illegal...

They are in some U.S. States such as New York.

...and can be made with some metalworking and wood.

If it's legal where someone lives you can build an AR-15 using an 80% lower or a Glock knock-off using mix&pour Resin kits; either of those can be done by most people in an apartment. If you have more space and talent there's a video out there showing how to build an AK from a common shovel.

You can build a basic shotgun in the plumbing aisle at Home Depot and there are functional practical designs for DIY sub-machine guns out there.

The American tradition of building ones own firearms is 250 years old and (mostly) alive and well.

If this Rule is adopted and you are using an ID that doesn't show your Birth Sex please remember that you can legally purchase firearms privately without needing a Form 4473 assuming the state you live in didn't pass some dumb fucking law that requires private transfers to be done through an FFL.

If you can't legally buy privately because your State won't let you then it is fairly straightforward to DIY quality firearms; everything from a knock off Glock to an AR-15. Seriously, it's not overly complicated and can often be done in an apartment with basic tools.

If the State you live in has also banned home made / "Ghost Guns" then your options are to try and get your state to change its laws, move to another State, or to do something illegal.

With the practical suggestions out of the way I'm going to get political.

This kind of shit is what happens when we keeping handing the Executive Branch ever more regulatory authority. The President shouldn't have the ability to issue Executive Orders like this nor should the BATFE have the ability to change its own rules like this. 2A Advocates have been mad about both of these for a long time and both Political Parties have leveraged these capabilities to further their agendas. What's worse is that our Congress is filled with spineless opportunists who refuse to reign-in these abuses.

This Trump led fuckery should not be happening however the Biden led fuckery around Pistol Braces shouldn't have happened either and the Obama fuckery around taking 2A rights from Veterans shouldn't have happened. In every single case it's a President using Executive Orders to try and disenfranchise people to further a political agenda while Congress stands around navel gazing.

People need to internalize the fact that that the Government has no place in your Bedroom, Boardroom, Doctors Office, or Gun Cabinet and stop voting for the people who believe otherwise.
