That's funny because I live in a shared house which has 8 bedrooms but only 1 kitchen. Even if I worked 40 hours a week I couldn't afford a studio in my city. New Zealand rentals are unaffordable, here I'd need to have a professional job and be married just to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with almost no space.

In 2014 and 2015 I was nearly killed or injured in two separate accidents at work. Luckily I got away with no injury. I've worked dozens of jobs but they are either high turnover roles or they are part-time and barely pay my rent so I need to be subsidised by social welfare. All the people I meet are bonkers and I feel uncomfortable around normal people anyway, because I don't have their lifestyle or any career direction. I've basically been unemployed since early 2021 with very few small exceptions. Prior to that I was unemployed from about early 2016 til late 2020 then had my job for 5 months but quit due to the intense pressure and my boss threatening me with written warnings for not performing tasks with perfect KPI and too many complaints from impatient customers. It's just impossible these days. Even with a job I can't move into a better rental - I'm stuck in a shared house with 8 bedrooms and only 1 communal kitchen which has numerous problems. No car park, so I can't drive to any jobs now, has to be on a bus route. I got sick of having to share a driveway with the other 6 tenants who all own cars. I have to keep moving my car and then on the road there are time limits. I sold my car at the start of the year and made a loss. It didn't take long to spend the money because it was so little. I basically bought a board game, some new underwear and a subscription to a website. Also bought new foam (installed on my computer chair) no money now lol

Indeed. A phone that costs half as much can pretty much do the same job..... I doubt I'd notice performance issues or hit the limit of what the CPU can do on a cheaper phone. I just learned I can use Unexpected Keyboard through f-droid, although there is no auto-correct, it tends to be very smooth and lightweight compared to other keyboards. People don't know it, but the keyboard is a resource hog. It's always calculating things every time the cursor is moved.

I'm sure they could have elections, but bear in mind, getting votes from soldiers would take a very long time, since they can't even get rotated out of the zone when they're supposed to.

Yeah that's true. I'd like to do it myself but it isn't just a money problem, it's also a problem of where do I store all this stuff if I buy multiple phones, when my desk and shelves are already full.

Ideally yes, I'm not suggesting a company that sells new phones. I mean refurbished old ones if they can be hacked and have the google erased from them. There are many old phones and also many clever people who can use work-arounds to reformat the phones, even if the manufacturers don't want people doing it.

If people want their spyware apps they could buy a budget android phone for $130 USD and keep it in the draw. I still think there are some people who want freedom from all the crap. I've never owned a good phone. The apps lag constantly and when I have a dozen apps installed it's like a mental illness for me personally and it ruined the battery life and CPU performance. Everything slows down. Great if people can buy a $850 USD phone with 6 years of updates but it's not for me.
