Saying that blatant transphobia "isn't about trans people" is certainly a take. Them also being misogynists doesn't mean this isn't bigotry directed at trans people.

Edit: Also, trans men are routinely forced to join women's teams. Saying trans men are allowed on men's teams by the same people that want trans women to not be in women's sports is a lie. There just aren't many trans men who can join any sports teams, as almost all sports state that you can't take testosterone for any reason.

You eat less plants by just eating the plants. With chicken, you need to feed it way more plants, only for most of that energy to end up in parts of the chicken you don't eat.

Good submission, but wanted to put the actual reason for anyone wondering.

You should be able to make recipes that normally use cucumber, they should taste pretty normal. It may be due to the strain of plant, but this can also happen to normal cucumber planta if the roots are stunted and they don't get enough sun. Color-wise, I have a few cukes that look like that from my garden, and the round shape just betrays the fact that cucumbers are actually a kind of melon!

Yeah, it was not the first time I saw that kind of emotional sadism from her, but it was the one that made me realize that she literally thought some people deserved to die for things they ultimately had little to no control over.

Thankfully my dad is a bit more levelheaded (though he still enabled her) and I have a lot of extended family who also can't stand her. I credit them as being the main reason I didn't end up continuing the abuse cycle.

For context: I had an uncle who was an alcoholic/addict, with his addiction being the result of immense trauma he suffered as a kid. He was fired from his job in the medical field after writing himself scripts, and made a genuine effort to turn his life around. He went to AA and other therapy, brought his sponsor/buddy to events where there would be alcohol, and generally took it seriously and worked to improve.

A few years later, we got a call in the early morning. He had overdosed and died after an argument with my aunt. It's unclear whether it was a relapse or if the overdose was intentional, and to be honest it didn't matter. My aunt was distraught, he was dead, and their kids now had no father. It was a horrific tragedy.

When I got up to ask what the phone call was for, my mother had a huge smile on her face. She thought his addiction was a moral failing that automatically made him a bad person, but she also judged him badly for needing AA and the buddy syatem to stay on track. She told us, with glee in her voice, that he had "finally killed himself".

It took everything in my power to not lay into her, which I didn't do only because I knew she would never change her mind. It was just the latest and worst example of her horrid behavior. I never told my aunt, but I did tell other members of my extended family when they asked why I didn't talk to them anymore.

Trans women getting pregnant can happen, because there are intersex people who id as trans women who are born with a uterus and could give birth.

But there are no cases yet of a perisex trans woman born with a penis and testes getting reassignment and a uterus transplant and giving birth. It may be possible in the near future, but not with current medical techniques.

I am not sure why, but my one day sourdoughs were still sour to me, and they would usually get more sour as the days passed after baking. I think it is because I live in a humid area that also tends to be cooler, as climate does impact the taste.

I am glad you got it to work for you! But for me it is cheaper to buy the yeast in a large block and use that.

Making tofu from scratch. Also sourdough.

I love cooking in all forms, and there are a lot of things I happily do from scratch. I love baking bread, making my own oat milk, mixing up my own seitan from vital wheat gluten, and a whole bunch of other things.

But making tofu was something I tried a bunch of times and have ultimately given up on. It is extremely time consuming, very difficult to get right, and makes a worse product than what I can buy at the store. It isn't even cheaper to do, as the cost of the soybeans and the cost of the premade tofu are about the same. I may make it on occasion if I plan on serving it on its own as a dish with soy sauce, but that is about it.

With sourdough, I found it easy to get into, but my husband and I both prefer our baked goods to be not sour, and we both have pretty sensitive tastebuds in that regard. It is easier for me to just use instant yeast whenever I need it and make something we both prefer to eat.

They don't stay in charge, and they are also tasked with fixing all the corrupted and shattered gems from the war. So they give up their political power and fix their mistakes. I don't know what further consequences (that would be kid-show appropriate) they should get.

The show is an allegory for being trans and how family may treat you like shit for wanting different things than them. It is made for kids under 13 years old. Telling kids they should kill people after they have changed and agreed to fix what was broken seems like a bad thing.

Also, the creator (Rebecca Sugar) is a queer Jewish person, so I think they are well aware of the history of fascism and its consequences. They chose to make the tone and arc of the show anyways, and maybe you should think about why they made that choice before criticizing a children's show for not encouraging murder as a solution to problems.

Also, shattered gems are shown to still have at least some awareness, meaning that shattering the Diamonds wouldn't be killing them, but subjecting them to eternal torture. While also removing the only hope for fixing the gems that are corrupted. Which is what the Diamonds are tasked with to start making things right, along with giving up their social power over the rest of the gems.

The biggest thing that I learned was that I had to redefine what my path to trauma recovery would look like. There are a lot of things that I do that I attributed to coping with trauma, but now I need to ask myself what I am trying to do and whether I should seek to stop doing those things.

For example, since that explanation is a bit convoluted: as a kid, I learned how to walk very quietly by walking on the balls of my feet, because it was useful for getting a snack from the pantry when I was refused dinner. But I also just like walking on my toes sometimes, and learning that this is common among people on the spectrum helped me accept that.

It also helped me look at my childhood and see how much of my trauma was a response to me struggling with that divergence. Having trouble managing emotions to the point of panic attacks at age 8 I can now recognize as autistic meltdown. There were many cases where I was labelled maliciously compliant to orders, and I now understand that it was because I was interpreting the command very literally, which is still something I struggle with as an adult.

I am technically subclinical, in that I got evaluated and was not given a diagnosis of autism/ASD. However, the guy doing my eval said "If thia were 10 years ago, I would give you a diagnosis of Aspergers, but that doesn't exist anymore, so I can't give you a diagnosis."

It wasn't until I talked to my therapist, who had referred me, that I realized that Aspergers doezn't exist because it was rolled into ASD. Meaning I likely did qualify for a diagnosis. But the guy decided to say my symptoms were all due to my trauma, ignoring the fact that quite a bit of that trauma was the result of me having these traits and my parents labelling me a difficult child as a result.

I sought a diagnosis mostly because I have a lot of sensory issues and communication difficulty, and I had several diagnosed friends who said I was likely on the spectrum.

I am a trans guy, not mtf, but wanted to add: "autogynephilia", aka "finding yourself attractive as a woman", is also experienced by cis women, at about the same rate as in trans women.

Also, finding yourself attractive is very common in general, with cis and trans men reporting feeling autoandrophilia. Not sure about levels and experiences of intersex or nonbinary people, as unfortunately studies don't include those groups.

Here is a quick source, but there have been a number of studies on this over the years, all showing that this experience is very normal in humans: https://slatestarcodex.com/2020/02/10/autogenderphilia-is-common-and-not-especially-related-to-transgender/

CisWhite women might not be comfortable around trans black women in female only segregated spaces and saying 'just get over it' isn't really progressive.

Also, what "true conflict of interest" exists, other than people with prejudice feeling uncomfortable? Trans people are less likely to commit crime than cis people on the whole, with the main exception being more likely to be charged with crimes realted to sex work due to unemployment.

I have made decent sour cream by soaking and blending cashews, add in some salt, a little bit of neutral vinegar or lime juice, and just a bit of nutritional yeast. Blend in a nutribullet type blender, keeps in the fridge for a week or so. I used this recipe for vegan crema and made adjustments for my taste: https://www.ratedvfood.com/blog/easy-vegan-mexican-crema-2-ways

If you have an immersion blender, mayo is also easy enough. Vinegar, aqua faba, salt, and slowly stream in the oil as the blender is going. Keeps in a jar for about two weeks, but may collapse if left for two long. I used this recipe to start, but you may need to tweak it depending on the oil you use: https://www.ratedvfood.com/blog/easy-vegan-mexican-crema-2-ways

The very first sentence of this article, talking about how the Mississippi River flowed "unchecked" for millions of years until the dams of the early 20th century, are highly debatable and bordering on false.

There used to be a massive, natural 'dam' made of logs, dirt, plants, and other debris that formed a miles-long plug near the end of the river. This was called the Great Raft, and it was heavily documented by colonizers who began exploring the river and the lands to the west of it. The Raft was destroyed to make commercial travel easier, and is thought to have had a devastating impact on the ecology of areas as far west as Colorado as a result of this water now actually flowing freely as opposed to flowing much more slowly and soaking into the ground.

If you want more info on it, Milo Rossi (aka Miniminuteman) did an incredibly informative video on it recently, and I cannot recommend it enough. If we are going to be supporting efforts to restore this areas natural ecology, we need to do proper research to see what that ecology actually was, instead of assuming that things always looked and worked the way they did in 1900.

Edit: corrected some spelling.

Sultans of Swing. Everyone and their uncle thinks its the best thing ever, so I hear it all the fime. Repetitive music, barely any actual singing, and just frankly sounds shit. I can't believe it was so popular that I am now cursed to hear if on every oldies station.
