@eniko@peoplemaking.games Some people (read: randos on internet forums) have been saying it's broken - I immediately hit a wall configuring the scummvm version of nuvie (I later discovered that I probably ought to have been looking for scummvm.ini instead of nuvierc) and went back to a stand-alone build because I still remembered how to set that up.
@eniko@peoplemaking.games My last nuvie playthrough was definitely my favourite ever. The expanded world map really highlights how fresh the game still feels in terms of its writing, attention to detail and incredibly artful gameplay loops.
I still want to do a bit more tweaking before I settle in to play because I think there are more options for how the paperdolls look in the nuvie settings. (Or not... I've been through a few.)
And I do want to see if there's a way to fix the gender thing, because I've decided my Arbitrary Excuse for replaying it yet again is masc-Avatar playthrough because I started T this month... but I vaguely dislike all the M-Avatar portraits, so want to swap the gender marker but not appearance.

@hrrrngh@froztbyte I was preeved about this, but was already starting to get sus because they've previously touched on Effective Altrusim positively (without using the term) and seem uncomfortably longtermist, which really does concern me given the figures and philosophies involved.
This is extra crap because I'd already introduce the channel to younger family members as a learning resource that I wouldn't have to fact-check to death, but apparently noooo.

The bug tracker for nuvie in ScummVM looks reasonably clear of major issues, so it's probably fine

Apparently custom character sprites and tillesets might not work properly with the ScummVM version, per reddit.

I mean having the full world map visible , a la Ultima 7, as opposed to the viewport of the original U6 UI.

I was recently discussing the Ultima games' virtue systems - karma in U6 - as a precursor of quality-based systems in modern narrative games (see https://emshort.blog/2016/04/12/beyond-branching-quality-based-and-salience-based-narrative-structures/ ) and I'm looking forward to delving into the mechanics and narrative design on this playthrough.
