Why not both? Why do you treat filling out a piece of paper or form on a machine as some kind of monumental undertaking? It's one day out of your time at most. Maybe an hour for most people. You also legally get time off work to vote in many states.

If I get drafted tomorrow, I'd rather choose prison. You are not fighting for your fellow citizens, your country, other countries, or their people, you are fighting YOUR fellow citizens, and destroying innocent people on behalf of corporations, and the psychotic racist pedophiles currently in charge of this country.
