Found out about Hurley ten years ago through that website we don't mention here. Initially I had bought that album a few years ago to frame the sleeve, I had no record player back then and had no plans to buy one. Well, things change I suppose.
Hurley's music is described as Outsider Folk. A bit bluesy, a bit folky. But all around original.
Edit: This is the 2021 repress by Mississippi Records. Cold not afford a first press edition, even though the print on the cover is much more colorful and bright on the original ones. Which was the initial reason to buy this.
Es geht mir weniger darum, dass der Markt eine Nachfrage schafft, die eigentlich gar nicht vorhanden ist, sondern darum, dass man als mündiger Kunde auch einfach "Nein" sagen kann. Dir gefällt die Plastikflasche von Coke nicht? Kaufe sie nicht. Willst noch deine Meinung dazu loswerden? Schreib dem Support: "Warum kein Glas mehr?". Verzicht ist nochmal etwas ganz anderes, als sich das "Faire" Produkt nicht leisten zu können. Aktivismus für den kleinen Geldbeutel, sozusagen.
Jetzt müssten wir natürlich über die Wirkung von Werbung, Konsumverhalten in unserer Gesellschaft, sozialen Druck usw. reden. Aber ich glaube das sprengt den Rahmen deiner eigentlichen Frage.
Wenn man wenig Geld hat, ist „ethischer Konsum“ einfach nicht immer eine echte Option.
Ich halte es für mich so: Jeder nach den Möglichkeiten die er/sie hat. Ich werde von einer alleinerziehenden Mutter nicht verlangen ihre Kinder und sich selbst vegan zu ernähren und nur fair produzierte Kleidung aus Europa zu kaufen. Das ist schlicht nicht bezahlbar. Beim single ITler mit gutem Gehalt bin ich da etwas kritischer.
Womit ich nicht ganz einverstanden bin ist die "Ich kaufe ja bloß das, was andere produzieren" Einstellung. Wenn der Konsument es nicht kauft, wird es auch nicht produziert. Aber auch hier gilt natürlich, wer sich etwas faires/bio/vegan/EU oder was auch immer nicht leisten kann, den trifft keine Schuld. Im Gegenteil, er wird durch gesellschaftliche Umstände und aus wirtschatflichem Kalkül dazu gezwungen (oft) minderwertige und ungesündere Produkte zu konsumieren.
Their only double album, released on two LPs. This is the 2022 Record Store Day Reissue. All vinyl versions of the album are missing the last track of LP 2 "Death Grips 2.0", because of length issues. Which is fine by me, I always thought that track was not a good fit anyway.
Probably my favorite Death Grips album, just because it is so diverse in styles. Not surprising, at a runtime of over 80 minutes. It also includes some of my favorites by them like Up My Sleeves, Beyond Alive, Centuries Of Damn and On GP.
Fun fact: For the first LP they used a ton of Björk vocal samples in every track, with her express permission.
