Then you haven't been paying attention.

JKR is not just some writer who happens to be transphobic. There are plenty of distasteful writers I still enjoy - the difference is they didn't turn their bigotries into a project.

She has made transphobia into her whole life. It is her primary political goal. It is what she spends her money and time on.

Elon Musk (who disowned his own daughter after she transitioned) complained that JKR's Twitter contributions were too obsessed with trans people.

I think Tim's hit the nadir in quality around 5-10 years ago. Everything since then has been a dead-cat-bounce - that is, they've gotten better simply because it was mathematically and chemically impossible to get worse. Like their various fried or scrambled egg additions are something approaching normal food, which is a huge improvement.

But "better" and "improvement" does not mean they're anything close to "good".

JKR is actively politically involved in the persecution of trans people and the protection of transphobes. Even if she does not directly profit from an individual piece of HP media, the success of any HP media strengthens her brand and thus her political power.

That's why it matters. Not an abstract question of "death of the author" or the Ship of Theseus of adaptations of adaptations, but the single contemporary living human being who converts Harry Potter's cultural cachet into actualized hatred.

I was just hoping for interesting tactics and a simple plot, which it delivered at first... but as the game develops it's as you said, mostly about learning to optimize your grind through exploiting systems that are basically only documented in wikis (what do all the stats and attributes do? Google it.)

Disgaea. I was trying to unlock all the classes and play with some of the monster classes but it was so tedious and slow that after 100 hours I looked up a power leveling guide and found out the optimal play was just to ignore the whole team strategy part of it and grind the main character into space. Dropped it then.

Trump is a slob about everything, but he's careful about one specific thing:

He will never testify under oath. And that's what Stewart was ultimately busted for - lying under oath.

Happy to see that the article isn't mincing words calling this a "crash" or an "accident" and Texas has him booked for manslaughter. Hopefully when it comes time to take him to court they can up that to murder (and, realistically, plea bargain him back down to manslaughter).

I do wonder if the subjects were reversed - if it were a Latino run over by a white woman - if Texas would take this as seriously.

and multiple driving offenses

People like that should not be driving. I realize that in Texas it's cruel to take somebody's license because that's basically crippling them. That's one of the many costs of car-centric planning: Since everyone must drive, it becomes unthinkable to take that away from someone.
