For the arch machine, not a chance. For the fedora silver blue machine? Yeah the process was super easy. The hardest part was probably getting the iso on a USB stick, but my wife walked through the initial setup with me via the GUI installer. It was no harder and much faster than a Windows install via a USB stick.
I don't think my mom could do it solo.
Regardless, it's pretty much set it and forget it, so if I'm visiting - could setup in 20 minutes and from that point onward no intervention required from me.
It's not rocket science but I get that some people will just want to use whatever is pre installed or whatever was configured for them.
My family had 3 windows machines a few years ago. Now we have 3 Linux machines.
I know we're not representative of the public at large, but my siblings are interested in transitioning... My friends are having more and more gripes with windows lately... Seems like a revolution is on the horizon. Never seen this sort of willingness, so who knows
Yeah... I built my wife a machine with 64 GB of RAM in ~October of 25 right before the prices spiked. Really kicking myself for not going all in and building a NAS setup at that same time. I can't realistically bring myself to purchase 4tb hard drives or ram at this point - it's too damn expensive.
Better than nothing - AI generated music gives me the ick. Wondering if folks will try to get around this by using "50% AI generated" tracks... I don't want Tidal to feel lifeless like Spotify began to feel. I have no issue dropping the subscription in that case.
That and the fact that the movie seems to be more of a forecast as opposed to just comedy at this point...
The movie is also pretty stupid (this is the point, I know), but when you see it rhyming so heavily with the current state of things - it's only a little painful.
What about the dad that abandoned their kids but then reappears to ask for help now that their kids have reached success as a physician or other professional peak?
It's always some bullshit excuse - "they're going to cut off my electricity" "I need help paying for food" "I got kicked off Medicaid buy haven't bothered to try to reapply" "I got heart surgery but still don't plan to stop smoking"
There's the human appeal of not wanting to see your father suffer. Knowing what it's like to be poor. Every ~2 months it's the same phonecall... Hey, can I get $3-500 just to get me through this month?
I am currently on hyprland, but previously tried to cutover to Niri and I had issues getting steam games to launch consistently. Has Niri gotten a bit easier to use while gaming? I tried maybe 5 months ago and just ended up staying on Hyprland because everything has been working without too many issues.

It's a slippery slope. Linux - the gateway drug to gender dysphoria 😏

What a pleasant and educational video

(She's running fedora silver blue)
If they need a Linux app, Tidal is another good option and there is a Linux installer.
I feel like a sexy little wrestler in a padded leotard when wearing my biking bibs.

I've really enjoyed the x4 with crosspoint loaded onto it.
If you pick one up, grab a developer version as it makes it slightly easier to flash the custom firmware (takes 1-2 minutes using a web installer)
Would consider changing the shoes out for some leather loafers or even boots. The shoes here seem like an after thought beyond being blue.

Where were you for 25+ years mother fucker.
NO! WAIT! PLEASE!
Probably, the unfortunate part is that you're going to die now that you've posted a comment referring to Arby's on Lemmy
I never want to read anything on that website ever again. Holy shit, it's awful
My face when my mom recently have my toys to my son (I'm in my mid 30s)
San Antonio mentioned in unix surrealism. Amazing. I can die happy. Go spurs go.
