The real answer is boring. Think about the legal precedent that would be set, this would be seen as condoning anyone to go out, market and accept money for a representation of their IP without asking for permission beforehand, no legal team worth their salt is going to allow that. They don't want to reward someone for doing things the wrong way from a legal standpoint. There's also probably a potential fraud liability here, the same way trademark owners are required to legally pursue copycat brands to prevent customers from being defrauded
There have been no major innovations in film technique for much longer than that, so they make a good point. 10 years is not a long enough interval to call filmed media old, unless someone is quite young and lacks context
Regardless of how it's explained, there's a flaw in any libertarian philosophy that still makes this meme true: Not wanting the government to get involved, means as a rule they don't support laws preventing other people from being discriminated against either, which sadly is proven to be something that needs to be done in human societies with historical inequality. Buds, how about funding more public transportation lines too, instead of protesting? SkyTrain is great when there are stations nearby, but considering the sprawl of the Vancouver Metro area, it needs to be expanded alongside housing density.
These guys seriously govern one of the most beautiful regions in North America, with unprecedented access to nature, relatively flat so walkable/bikable, and the only thing they can think about is adding more roads, parking, and pollution.
