"Moderators should moderate their communities for quality" is a valid solution to the problem you outlined, and a valid line of discussion even if you disagree.
I consider instance level and user level image tools as secondary to good community moderation, for things that the mods miss, and I only follow communities that seem well run.

I also ignore upvotes and downvotes on my instance as I don't think they're a good measure of quality.
The instance owner can change what is shown by default in the web UI for their users, but I think a lot of people use apps like Blorp, which will not be affected by this.
The defaults can make a difference. I implemented this feature on my personal instance, and now that image posts are hidden by default, I no longer interact with them consciously or subconsciously. The most engaging looking things on my front page are high effort posts that promote discussion like the OP. A LOT of people don't change defaults, so it might change what gets engagement if Lemmy does it.
I also implemented this for comments, so if you drop a pepe.jpg as a response, you'll have to use some words to get me to click on it.
Hi and thanks, the third one might be an issue for my personal use, I've followed some ActivityPub Groups for Mastodon that give me some kind of hashtag feed not associated with a community (FediGroups maybe), but I guess Blorp users simply won't do this so it'll be fine. I'll look into this again soon 👍
It's the forgejo link to my fediverse project, forgejo is something like github if you're familiar with github, a place for software developers to view and collaborate on software projects.
The project is only useful to developers in it's current state. You would need to download the project files, compile it into a binary, and possibly run it on a server to use the web UI. I currently don't have any instructions for this, but I'll make a longer post in the fediverse or selfhosted channel when I do.
Also, I'm targeting Sync for Lemmy instead of Blorp for the API.

First 3 episode arc was really good, definitely worth watching. Blends drama, comedy, spy stuff, 90s stereotypes and tech, hot cougary milves, musical numbers (!!), and a hint of wincest.
I looked up why it got cancelled and apparently it was just too high budget for a show with slightly niche appeal. Seems like it was replaced by CSI, which was huge at the time tbf
😂 the main character played by Eric Close spends the most of the second episode shirtless for reasons that don't really make sense in terms of plot, OUTRAGEOUS levels of fanservice so far
The first episode really was bonkers, I remember the rest being more of a mildly superpowered Burn Notice, so if you enjoyed that then you'll enjoy this.
I'd like to see more recommendations of niche older stuff on here tbh

Depends on the sub, the cooking subs are image based, but tend to have titles like:

If you browse the fediverse with inline images disabled, you will be unaffected by the addition of an image to a post.

We might be better off if they don't take an interest in us, or if they deem us "not social media".
