Hot take, but If it's old and/or no longer useful to you, then I would consider selling or trading it in. Apple products hold value better than a lot of other electronics in the same category and you might as well just take the cash and put it towards other homelab upgrades
I used to have a bunch of scattered markdown & txt files containing disparate notes which quickly became unmanageable. Now I run wiki.js (using the linuxserver image) and document everything in there. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done 🤷♂️
The tvOS app is actively under active development, although it's been a couple years since they've published a proper release. Devs routinely post updates here

Absolutely nothing prevents them from following the Adobe playbook and declaring that they'll be dropping support/updates for the "lifetime edition". Future feature updates & security fixes will then be gated behind a $29.99 monthly subscription
My rig is 10y old but it doesn’t actually feel all that old thanks to Linux; I also play mostly 2d games so that probably helps. Needless to say I’m overdue for an upgrade but that prob won’t happen anytime soon now :(
