Agreed. But there are essentially preasure points in manual labor that compell contracts to be written pro-union and to follow contractual rules. I don't see that happening in the development side of tech. The only fear these companies have is that in a walkout they would lose money for a very short time. Tech is already a high turnover sector. Most companies use turnover to reduce costs.

The companies can also uproot themselves much easier and with everyone working remotely and the economy sucking, what tech company couldn't have you replaced in 48hrs?

The only reason many of these companies even allow unions is for PR. Either to sound good or fear of backlash. Today people get angry but then the next story comes on the news and we all move on.

Again I'm pro-union in many cases. I just don't see the forces that would make this work for the vast majority of tech companies.

I've worked in a vast range of tech sectors over the years, with people being laid off and companies shutting down. I cannot think of a single time in 25 years where someone was let go for a reason that a union could have prevented. The whole "righting the ship" concept is what took nearly all of the jobs. Poor planning by management, failures in the industry and global economics were the causes and for that reason all those workers had negative ROI.

I like the idea of a union. Especially in an industry where businesses are lowering the requirements for entry (i.e. bootcamps replacing degrees). The problem is that tech can be fly by night. Especially when it is a purely software based solution. The money and time investments to start up and maintain aren't comparable to those of manual labor. Building a factory puts a company in far more of a bind than renting some cubical space. Meeting OSHA standards, logistics, permits, etc. All things that force companies to the negociation table. When your company is software and you outsource hardware to a product mill in China it is way easier to fire a ton of people because the projections look bad.

I'm staying for the same reason. I have jumped around a bit but I found a position that doesn't pay as well but there really isn't stress, no real fear of losing my job, etc. Still at the far low end for my position and years in the industry. But with less stress I guess it is worth it. Still can't retire, still can't afford to go on vacations. But at least I don't want to die anymore.

But those works were always excessively wordy. No one back then talked like that. Writing was seen as an art. Even letters back then were far more poetic than daily spoken word.

The problem is that we have now made it acceptable to say it is too difficult.

Antitheism is not about knowledge or belief. Its literally in the name, to be against theism. One can be a believer and still be against a religion for all the harm it causes.

Where this breaks down is where the AI tech is in this decade/century. Between running out of RAM and the fact these agents barely get marginally difficult tasks (programming wise) done, they won't be outputting the slop AAA games are today. When you have people making games and most players are pissed at how bad they are and how expensive, we all know that AI built games will be way, way worse and stild as expensive.

I was at a bar watching a game and threw out the JFC. Because it was Wisconsin kids are allowed in bars. A woman with a big ol' crusafix necklace on said "pardon me?!?!". I told her "oh, its no big deal. Jesus is make believe." and walked away.

I might be a brain in a vat, but I know how to make a woman cry out to God with just my fingers...and then they deconvert.

Oddly, the two super churchy women I've "been with" ended up leaving the church afterwards. Maybe OP should do a little 🫰🤌🤏 to her 🍑 and see what happens.

The difference is you are buying into a system with a specific setup. PS5 has a disc drive so you want physical media for whatever reason. Now the drive and the system for purchasing games is changing mid life of the console.

Some people might not have bought the system had this been told at the the release.

At this point all consoles are dead to me. We only but physical carts for the kids switch one and they are offline as much as possible. I only play indie and retro games because i want to give money to people who deserve it and on systems that can never have these issues. There is enough of both to keep me entertained my entire life.
