I used to like it with friends. Now I cannot even play it anymore because I'm on Linux and apparently that means I cannot be trusted to play a game I sunk hundreds of hours in with friends in a private lobby. Thiefs, they're not getting my money again
A smart species doesn't bet on one planet staying around. If we want to persist, we need to expand on the long term. Right now a single large meteor strike or a number of other catastrophic events could wipe us out because we're only on earth. Expanding to other planets in the solar system, and at some point hopefully beyond, is necessary to keep our species afloat.
Yes that costs resources, but as far as I'm aware not nearly enough to significantly impact climate change on its own. Also, as a much as I hate Musk, SpaceX has achieved some wonderful things. They have bright people there, and the money invested has achieved real progress in space travel. Reusing parts of their rockets and overall just improving the tech. I'd rather see someone having a space race, even if it's billionaires, as long as it improves the knowledge and technology for our species.
Better than keeping his head up his ass. Conspiracy groups can often also be part of community and identity. Changing your mind, therefore, might mean losing a social circle and possibly status that you thought to have. He probably though that he was smarter than 90% of the population, and now he feels like an idiot.
In that scenario, this is the best outcome and it should be applauded. If we don't reward people for escaping and admitting their wrong, then they could easily get trapped. Why change your mind when it means that nobody likes you anymore and everyone thinks you're an idiot?
I agree, but there's a difference between simply differing opinion and dumping a boat load of money, presumably some of it from Mullvad subscriptions, into a party that advocates for "remigration". If the dude just had some weird opinions I wouldn't necessarily switch, but I don't like the idea of my money directly helping with helping the far right. Honestly, I wouldn't even remotely care enough if one of the founders was part of a "normal" European neoliberal or conservative party, I have plenty of friends across the political spectrum. I had ordered an airco before this madness started, but unfortunately the had to order it and it hasn't arrived yet. It has been hot for days already, it'll be 35 or higher the next 4 days, and I live under an almost flat, black roof with the sun on my the entire day. There will be no eepy sleepy time
At my place that trick works the first day, but after that it's over. The house always heats the same under this sunshine, slowly rising to 28-30 at the end of the day with everything closed and down from like 22-24 in the morning. The only question is whether that's better than a higher temperature with a slight breeze and fresh air. Today, it won't be higher than 30, so I'd rather have wind. The next 4 days, it'll be 35 or higher, so everything will get closed down during the day
Thanks! It really sucks. I'd prefer if my body just had some sort of "The Sims" type of "energy" bar so I'd be able to see when I push too far. Instead I'll just randomly feel worse a few days later. I'm slowly picking stuff up again though, mostly because I was getting frustrated with rotting away at home, and it doesn't seem to make things worse. And I still enjoy programming (which is also my job), I just enjoy it way too much. But that's better than not being motivated at all I guess

Nice photo! Gear can really make a difference. I have both M43 mirrorless cameras (Olympus E-M5 mark 2 as primary) and Canon DSLRs (Canon 5D mark 2 as primary). Both of them have their moments. I really enjoy shooting with a DSLR more in many cases, but there's a time and a place for that. Sometimes having the features and low weight of the E-M5.2 make much more sense.
Honestly I keep flipflopping between them, so I just keep them both, despite it being a bit annoying to be invested in 2 systems.
I like all the colours! The house, the trees, the sand, the sky and water. It would've been nice if the curved edge between sand and water would've been in the frame all the way, though maybe that wasn't possible because of distractions in the shot? Either way it's a nice picture
Yeah it's so cool. Honestly, IR is the dream for black and white landscapes: foliage is bright white and the sky very dark. Scenes like these can sometimes look very mundane on a normal camera, and then look absolutely stunning in infrared
Yeah fair. Only a specific kind indeed, the other wasps I do respect. I recently spent quite a while getting one of the nice wasps out of my house because I didn't want to kill it. Yellowjackets do not usually have that luxury though, unless letting them go is easier than killing them

I have to assume that it's not just the avondvierdaagse, but more so the mentality here that kids can roam freely and play without their parents having to protect them at every moment. Something they do name in the article very briefly.
Kids here have a lot of autonomy, something that they don't appear to have in the US for instance. I'm Dutch and when I was young I'd just roam the neighborhood with friends. I didn't have a phone or tracker or anything, I was just somewhere relatively close to home, playing with other kids. Maybe at the playground of the school, maybe at the playground across the school, maybe cycling through the neighborhood like a menace on the public roads. We were obviously taught not to go with strangers and to be careful, this is not a mystery place without bad people, but that seemed to be enough.
Seeing images of the car-centric wastelands that are the average North American cities, reading about teens who still have to be driven everywhere anytime they wanna leave the house, I can totally imagine why kids would be happier here. We'd cycle to school ourselves before the end of primary school. I live close by a school now and there are plenty of kids who still do the same.
I learnt a lesson yeah. It looks like I got away, there's no rootkit, I found nothing weird running, I don't have npm Installed, and up until now it doesn't seem like the packages I had installed were compromised. But I had way more AUR packages installed than I was aware of. And I was just updating them without really caring about the pkgbuild, I have better things to do. Multiple packages were outdated crap that shouldn't have been there anymore.
I was careless and took too much risk. I reduced the Installed AUR packages to a minimum, and from now on I will verify the PKGBUILDs on every update. Maybe Arch isn't really what I need. I'm on the LTS kernel and I no longer really use the AUR. But switching will be a huge hassle and this setup will work well from here on out, so I'll stick to it for now
Not really though. I haven't been on the big social media platforms in forever, even during my 20s I was already gone. That doesn't withhold you from visiting parties, chilling with friends, going places, etc. The only big platform that I'm still on is WhatsApp, because it's the main way to message people here, and that's how you can go places. But I haven't go Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, TikTok, and whatever the fuck people use to consume ads nowadays
