I use Google Translate when reading, but I still feel that Japanese translations are not always perfect.
For writing, I usually translate with ChatGPT, then check it again by retranslating into Japanese with DeepL, and pick the version that feels the most natural.
Previously, when AI-related discussions came up, I was using AI to translate my posts into English. I was concerned about becoming a target because of that, so I ended up closing all my issues and stopped participating in the chat.
It helps a lot that translation into English has now been explicitly allowed as an exception.
I basically never open my windows. This winter, I don’t think I opened them at all except maybe during a big cleaning day.
In Japan, ventilation is required by law, and most modern houses are equipped with a 24-hour ventilation system. Because of that, we don’t really need to open the windows to get fresh air — the system continuously circulates air for us.
At the same time, it doesn’t make the house noticeably colder in winter or hotter in summer. The air also goes through filters, which is especially nice during pollen season.
So I don’t really feel suffocated even with the windows closed, since the air is still being exchanged constantly.
I’m Japanese, and honestly, I don’t see any special meaning in this pose at all.
As far as I know, this image is just a scene from Space Brothers, where Namba Mutta is simply talking about the Sharon Telescope. There’s no symbolic or cultural meaning attached to the pose in Japan—it’s just a moment in the story.
Japan.
It seems we were talking about different instances; what I was referring to was this instance.
The administrator of that instance also operates Mastodon and Misskey servers, so people should be able to reach them there if needed.
Since it's a Japanese-language instance, I suspect the number of affected users is relatively small.

If this were to be implemented, I’d like it to be something users can toggle in their settings.
Changes to the original post should be avoided as much as possible.
Went to a local cherry blossom festival yesterday.
They weren’t fully bloomed yet (maybe around 80%), but still looked amazing.

I believe I can touch type properly on a QWERTY layout.
In Japanese, we have to convert kana into kanji as we type, so I sometimes make mistakes during the conversion stage.
I occasionally play a typing game called Sushi-Da for practice.

Exactly. Some parts may look readable as Japanese, but this is Chinese.
The way the characters are written is slightly different from Japanese.
There is a similar pose where people make a heart shape above their head. Japanese people like making heart shapes for pretty much everything.

Putting standards aside, I personally prefer aligning with Lemmy.
On my own server, I handle it in the following way, though I understand this is largely a matter of personal preference.
