You can probably run the official version using DistroBox (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Distrobox). It's pretty straightforward to setup using one of the GUI tools (both of which are available as flatpak). Once you have it all installed you can export a desktop shortcut and you wont even know its in a container.
These games are such a small portion of the overall steam playerbase I'm not sure why Valve would care. Everyone makes such a big deal about like 4 or 5 games that dont run because the devs have explicitly chosen to not allow it.

My initial thought was software, but after all the above stuff I did pop the back off to check for any burned out components, water, and to make sure all the cables were seated well. Everything looked fine though.

Looks great. Looks pretty far along. I bet she is playable at Evo and out shortly after. Early/mid July.

You may also want pactl for audio switching.
Did you plug the drive back into the exact same slot? If you switched them around that could be the issue.
