I am having many friends over and we wish to play games on PC, there will be just one PC available but 8 controllers connected to it. Looking for recommendations!
I created this set up specifically to play killer queen black, but if there are other arcade style games that are fun and can accommodate the player count I would love to know about them!

I'm pretty sure there's a specific Bomberman console release you can emulate with 8 players.
You could also emulate Smash Bros Ultimate, as it has 8 player support. Might be boring to just play a Switch game many people have though. Maybe look into mods for it?
And you can always use co-optimus to search for stuff. Just set At least 8 players, couch co-op in the filters: https://www.co-optimus.com/system/4/pc.html

The Wii U version of smash also can handle 8 players

Saturn Bomberman supports up to 12 players I believe.

Tabletop Simulator is always my go to for big group local co-op (I believe it supports up to 10 players.) Pico Park 2 might be more akin to what you're looking for.
You can also check co-op.gg and filter by storefront, #of players, local, online, etc to see what results they give you! Just double check the game's individual chart to make sure the local co-op limit.

That would be hotseat multiplayer right? Or can you do splitscreen with tabletop sim?
sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 1d
A week late, but is it indeed hotseat multi.

That website is nice, much cleaner interface than cooptimus

Came in here to recommend Towerfall. Played it with 6 people once - it’s a blast and scales well enough with high player counts.

Screencheat has up to 8 player support and is exactly its name.

Wow that's a cool resource that I just learned about..
I'll add to my own list for others reading this from the future, fling to the finish and unspottable also work for this. Bonus for fling to the finish that two players can share one controller if controller count is low

I think Brawlhalla supports 8 players

Peak with the host running the more players mod can do at least 8 players in a session. It's pretty great fun

It is a Bomberman rip-off, but very fun. The Steam page claims they can support any number of players, but recommends limiting it to 4-20.

As a fallback, you could also have some hotseat games. Was recently thinking of HedgeWars again, which is basically open-source Worms Armageddon.

also Screencheat

Rag Doll Kung Fu
It definitely supports up to 8 players but I think it requires 8 mice, not controllers.
We had a lot of fun with this back in high school.

Unrailed 2, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it supports 8 player local coop, but might be worth double checking before buying

I believe TMNT shredder's revenge goes up to 6, beat'em up style game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1361510/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_Shredders_Revenge/
For 8 specifically I can only think of pico park 1 and 2

Can you even connect that many controllers to one computer without a bunch of dongles?
danciestlobster@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 6d
I was skeptical but it turns out my one receiver for xbox wireless controllers can support a bunch and friends are saying Bluetooth for PlayStation controllers also works. That said I also have USB splitter for all the USB controllers

TowerFall, Samurai Gun, Mount Your friends, Genital Jousting, starwhal, duck game, crawl, gang beasts, lethal league, magica, Monaco, nidhogg, wobbly life, tmnt splintered fate
I think most of those only go to 4, some to 2.
