It’s been a mixed bag. Some ups, some downs.

My relationship with my long-term partner has definitely suffered quite a bit from my malaise. I am doing my best to repair what was damaged from my lacking. She definitely helped me through a lot of the hardship and put aside some of her issues to help me through mine. She’s not suffering like I was, but that’s no reason to let her carry it all like she has been. I just hope I can be enough to improve her life in the same way she makes mine brighter.

On the working front, I was certain my current position was a dead end that made me miserable. I increased how many jobs I was applying to at night and committed to sending out at least 25 applications each month. I got plenty of interviews but never an offer, for almost 10 months. My motivation would come in waves, but I kept striving to do better each time. Eventually I ended up quitting after 9 months of this. I increased my pace of job applications, knowing I had 6 months to rely solely on my savings before I’d have to take a non-engineering position to pay the bills. I got to month four and was sweating bullets before I landed my current position. It’s not perfect, but my coworkers and boss actually seem to care for each other. It’s a demotion in terms of what I’m doing, but I see a path forward for what I could do here.

During my job search, I ended up applying for the robotics teacher position at my old high school. I got second place, but they created an assistant coach position for me to help out the team this upcoming year. I’m honestly so excited, I started seeing a therapist, and it was okay. I’m not entirely sure what it did, but maybe it will help later and I just can’t realize it yet. I stopped when I quit my last job and just started again last week with a new one. I’m not sure I mesh with this guy, but I’m willing to give it a try. I might also try seeing a few others to find someone who clicks.

I just finished a massive biography that took me forever to get through. I feel so satisfied, and I really enjoyed the new perspective I have after doing a deep dive.

Mentally, I still feel tired and am still struggling with a lack of motivation. I’m just trying to keep moving, but some days are easier than others.

The self-hate is still there. I don’t like who I am, but I can at least see someone I could become whom I do like. I guess I could see it before, but it felt like a mockery of who I was in the moment. Hopefully, one day I’ll have the wisdom of Iroh. For now, I’ll work on figuring out what’s best for the moment at hand.

I really appreciate all the comments on this post. They helped me, at a low point, realize I wasn’t as trapped as I felt in that moment.

You’re probably right but I do think Duo is a good place to start. I tried starting listening to podcasts & even children’s TV in Italian. It just wasn’t helpful. I started with Duo & now have been able to understand a few simple podcasts at .25 speed. I’m hoping to get better with time but Duo definitely gets more hate than it deserves. It’s simply a fun way to get started & the rest is up to the individual

In the real world yes-ish. In the case of a a roller coaster or car the eddy currents bring the speed to near 0 & the rolling friction brings it to a complete stop. The issue is an eddy current braking system can’t keep something at rest. That’s why the roller coaster has a physical brake to keep the ride in place when people are getting on. There are other types of magnetic brakes/ contactless brakes, I just don’t know much about them. My company used the eddy current brakes to limit fall speeds to a safe level if a specific part fell during an emergency.

Idk it might use magnetic brake pads. I have used them in other fields & they are pretty nifty. The ones I used created eddy currents & had not mechanical wear. For my project the mechanical brake had a ~10 year lifespan while the magnetic brake could last ~50 years. Also the mag brake was only 30% more expensive but didn’t need maintenance & would be significantly cheaper if you took the lifespan of the project.

This is a misunderstanding of radioactive material. The atoms already exist & they are already spread all throughout the world. Building a reactor allows us to harness the energy of atoms decaying in a useful way.
As for the end product France is able to recycle up to 96% of spent fuel. The remaining 4% is being prepped & placed back in the ground at a site they are currently building. If you want to read more this Stanford student wrote a well cited paper.

There are plenty of things America has done wrong but it’s a straw-man to say it’s only been bad. The Marshal plan is a clear example of America doing a clearly good thing even. Just cuz it’s a mess right now doesn’t mean it is always the case

Dog walking or other skill based teaching/tasks. You might need some small things like poop bags or something else. In the past I did dog walking & that is easy to start. Then I expanded to helping train & other tasks around taking care of dogs. That’s just what I did but you can choose something else you like such as music lessons.

I’m just worried if I switch the effort of starting back up will be too much & it will be easier to just stop going. Is this normal to feel this way?

I started seeing a therapist a month. I’ve never really talk about how I feel & don’t understand what to say when we meet. I feel like I’m wasting time each session. Everyone says they help but I don’t even understand how.

I think there is some more nuance here then all restocking fees are bad. For some businesses that sell items that are custom made or have so many varieties that they are practically custom parts. So when an item like this is returned it can’t be sold at the same amount & storing the item until it sells has a cost. So to encourage customers to be certain of their orders a restock fee is used on some items to stop customers from ordering testing then returning what they don’t like.

If you bring up Amazon’s restocking fee your right those guys are assholes who try to squeeze as much cash out of everyone.
