Very well put, even if the babylon5 reference went over my head. Now I know what to watch on my day off!
And yeah, I don't agree with any of the choices here, just, this feels like the Internet drama of the old net, and has a very genuine feeling to it, if that makes sense?
I've met people like this, I genuinely do think they were trying to #savelemmy and carve out a little space of their own. Through somewhat malicious ends admittedly, but I know they saw their initial actions as righteous. (Which, I disagree with heavily ofc)
I wonder what they are feeling right now? I highly doubt this is that last act, I think some kind of half apology is going to make its way out.
Am I wrong to empathize at least a little? Ive had crash outs that were pretty bad. I've never ddos'd someone but ive definitely done 2000s forum "psycho ex girlfriend" story post levels of crazy before. In your moment of rejection, nobody else matters, you devalue everyone just for that very small satisfaction of revenge.
I am not an ML but I think your best bet is getting them into the reading early. We don't need more youtube & tiktok communists regurgitating things they heard by people who haven't done the reading themselves.
The Principles of Communism is a good start. After that, The ABC of Communism by Bukharin and Preobrazhensky I find to be a highly undervalued text, especially since Lenin occasionally references it. Beyond that, Economic & Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844.
At that point they can really just dig into whatever. If they are interested in the content they can look for explanations when they don't understand.
I never liked my jobs until I found one that I did. I work as a meat cutter (I cut primals into subprimals). It's a job I could see myself doing even in a post revolutionary society. The people I work with are all pretty chill too. Mostly queer libs, which, is refreshing considering jobs I've previously had.
I obviously don't like that my surplus value is being extracted, I don't love that my manager is being forced to use an AI that allocates the amount of hours we all get each week (which is becoming less and less). But the actual labor? The actual task of cutting meat? I find it shockingly grounding. It just feels like I'm actually doing something someone benefits from.
Getting your needs met is unfortunately a luxury in the capitalist system. As long as my job feels necessary and my coworkers don't totally suck I get by though. If my coworkers ever actually wanna do union activity they know I'm up for it, and if we ever hit a revolutionary situation, I'll be down for that too.
“Give me an example of a real world country that flourished after transitioning to communism.”
None. I personally don't agree that we've seen socialism (which is just early stage communism). Most socialists you encounter will disagree with me, and that is fine.
"It seems like a lot of people can’t be satisfied with the theory"
A lot of people don't even read the theory, including the people who claim to.
A lot of people misunderstood the original comment you replied to. They know leftists don't vote blue no matter who. They were bullying the original commenter for talking down to "everybody who didn't bother to vote".
I locally host gemma 4 e2b on a very modest spec laptop to help summarize large texts, as a rudimentary translation tool, and just as a toy. It makes sense. I see small coding models on hugging face all the time, I think we've hit a point where it's just too efficient not to atleast entertain a little bit of slop in your workflow.
You probably want MATE, XFCE, LXQT, or god forbid Trinity.
Out of those, i personally find XFCE to be the most tolerable, and you can get some pretty decent looking themes setup for it. My system uses around 600mb on a cold boot, in theory I could get it down to 400mb but that comes with a good amount of drawbacks. CPU usage among all of those options is negligible.
Windows 11 was categorical dogshit at launch, people just seem to accept it when Microsoft shits out garbage.
There was some good stuff back in the 10 insider previews but by launch 10 was also trash. Genuinely when has windows been good after 7?

Sounds right to me. Aren't we just larping? /J

Let's use a cube as an example.
I can tell you roughly how large it is, if its rotating and roughly how fast. I "visualize" absolutely nothing. Not even a vague outline.

So then as long as my machine doesn't have systemd im fine?
US does thing its done for years on a bipartisan level
"Clearly this is distracting from the Epstein files."
Rad! Cool suggestion!
This looks like something I'd like. I'll check it out, thanks!
Not too bad. Is there anyway to setup crossfade?
The lessons of the 2nd international will forever be forgotten on this website. Smh.
Its literally always this one guys complaint, you know, the guy that shills signal, the app that literally requires a phone number to use.

Loud correct chime
Social Democrats have never once been successfully elected in American history.
And they have never had their policies implemented.
And none of them are still alive.
Definitely. Yep.
Wake me up when an actual socialist arrives.
