In the settings under "video & audio" I enabled "use external video player". When opening a video I can now choose e.g. vlc for playing. However, that results in some more clicks until finally the video is playing. But the problem with cropped video is gone.

Found the solution myself: Installed the NewPipe repository in FDroid and installed NewPipe from there. Now I have v0.27.2 and videos are again playing! 😀 Thank you!

Vielleicht noch gut zu ergänzen, dass die Version über das NewPipe Upstream Repo installiert werden kann, welches man in F-Droid ergänzen kann. Hier der Link:
