I can't speak as to why neurologically this happens, but physically it just makes sense. Stand on one foot and have somebody try to push you over. Now plant your feet wide and brace. Which way was easier?

Once I started doing Conjugate Method training (or Conjugish), my injury rate has gone way down. I barely have any injuries or tweaks anymore, other than my chronic low back issues. Variation is the key. It's not for everybody, but I'd look into Conjugate if you're worried about injuries. It's actually a lot safer than it looks.

If you're doing the whole rep/set with your butt up, then you're effectively doing a semi-decline press, which is easier than a flat bench. That's why most people do it. That's why many people lift their butt when the rep gets hard, because you put your body in a way more advantageous position.

I get in a better position to unrack the bar, then my butt gets back on the bench. I use barely any leg drive during my benching. I've focused on it in the past, and I really don't see that much benefit to it. Steve Shaw would agree. Plant feet for stability, get tight, control the weight...everything else is an overcomplication imo.

I understand that the Larsen press (with feet off the ground) variation of benchpress is harder, but I don’t understand why from a kinematics/mechanistic POV… 🤦‍♂️

You are less stable with a feet up bench or larsen press, so it's harder.

I'm in my mid 40s, so I take any PR without injury that I can! 😅

315 is legit ... definitely my long term goal. 300 is my goal for 2026, I think that's well within reach. 290 is likely my true 1RM right now, and when I do rep outs at lower weights my estimated 1rm is 300-305. I've always been so scared of heavy weights and injuries. Ever since starting Conjugate Method training I've gotten more comfortable with heavier weights and actually pushing my ceiling.

Golden age for sure. It was the wild West but so fucking fun. Every web page was creative and unique. Every community felt special. Now we're all just funneled into these prefab "experiences" on these billionaire owned corpo platforms. It's so dystopian.

I had my first account in 2006 I believe. By even 2010 Reddit was becoming kind of shit.

Honestly, I don't want to blame reddit entirely. The entirety of the internet has gotten progressively worse and worse and worse over the past 20 years. At this point I'm ready to nuke the whole experiment.

Low back injuries are no joke! I'm plagued by chronic low back issues. I have no idea what causes my injuries (other than sitting all day lol). Just go slow and if anything feels tweaky, cut the set off.

I've really been hammering back extensions lately, and following some advice form YT lowbackability (as suggested by Jim wendler).
