Only a part of the universe is observable. All the stars that can be seen are in this region.
So we cannot answer this question with certainty. But I would lean towards more galaxies than obervable stars because the universe could be very large or infinite in size.
I'm not a tankie. I was just pointing out that the code is open source and is devoid of any political bias. So it doesn't make sense to attach the developer's political beliefs with it.
yea I imagine some Haskell genius already wrote the greatest script in the world. But they are not famous because only a few shy programmers can understand it.
I prefer lemmy / piefed because it's not owned by a greedy capitalist who takes all your contributions for his own profits and then kicks you out anytime.
I built quite a community and made friends
There are really nice people here. Hope you enjoy it here too.
My gripe is not with death but with suffering. I was comparing the lives of farm animals (most meat and diary across the world comes from factory farms) with how modern agriculture kills small animals.
In the latter, the small animals are just living out their lives oblivious to the tractor or the pesticide that's going to kill it almost instantly. So it's less suffering.
There are levels of sentience too. I haven't formalized or measured it precisely. But I know it's not all equal. I would rather torture and kill an ant than a monkey.
just as the drunk driver recklessly kills
It's an engineering challenge. We can reduce it a lot through organic farming that doesn't use tilling, burning of crops etc.
sorry if I'm pushing too much, I enjoy philosophical discussion
There are already excellent answers. We can attack it from another angle and analyze what causes the fear of death.
Fear of separation
Death means leaving everything behind. The life you have built. Friends, family, home, your identity, and your body—even the clothes you have on.
Fear of pain
Death is usually accompanied by a lot of physical pain. We fear pain and live our lives running away from it.
We can use philosophy and deep thought to alleviate both.
Everything you are being "separated" from were only in your imagination. There were no "you" or "your people" or things to begin with. There is just reality. You have categorized sensory information as "this is me. This is my body, this is family etc." If you continue this line of thought, you will realise nothing special happens during death. You are still a part of reality in a different form like a cloud that becomes rain.
Next is the fear of pain. Pain is a protective mechanism in your brain. It is a signal telling you to stay away from something or to draw attention somewhere. It's nothing more. If you realise this at a deep level and keep your mind at peace even in extreme pain, your brain will not perceive it as a threat. Instead it will release endorphins to reduce the pain.
I know what I have said is not easy. It requires a lifetime of mental training and meditation. But it is possible.
And there are many stages to this. First is to not fear death during normal life. Next is to not fear it in the presence of a great threat. And the last is during the actual process of dying. Each stage is harder than the previous.
If you want to do it naturally, combining prolonged water fasting and endurance exercise is the way.
I once lost 18 lb in 10 days with it. I am already quite lean so I stopped.
You have to build up to it. Both in terms of walking or slow running long distances and being fat adapted. I started with intermittent fasting, omad etc.
I check my blood regularly. I always had normal b12 levels. I cannot explain it but my best guess is:
Maybe my gut is able to develop well, synthesize and absorb it because of eating mostly plants for so long. It's been 20 years since I took an antibiotic or used anything antibacterial. I forage and eat plants off soil regularly without much washing. Was I getting some b12 from soil? I can only speculate.
Our government started fortifying foods like flour and grains with B12 since 2-3 years. So I don't have to worry about it anymore.
Bioengineer yourself into Zaan from farscape? a intelligent plant species
I imagine something like that.
I'm sure you have seen the previous posts on the calculus of death in food production
I am aware of this argument. I don't think I have an answer that is logical or that will satisfy you. I suffered a lot as a child when I saw a fishes suffocating to death and a chicken being killed infront of me. I felt terrible while eating it too. So I've been mostly plant based since then.
I haven't had any health issues for decades. Nor have I needed any supplements.
I eat organic, local and wild as much as possible. Minimizing the deaths from modern agriculture. These deaths feel quite different to me. They are small animals just living out those lives and they are suddenly killed by pesticides or crushed by tilling. It's minimal suffering. I would prefer such a death compared to living and dying as a farm animal.
drink drivers don't intend to kill people in motor collisions
In case of drunk drivers they are intentionally impairing their motor skills, reflexes for a good time. They are intentionally entering circumstances that increase chances of harming others around them. So I usually condemn getting intoxicated unless it's in a safe setting and for medical reasons.
tldr:
Calories: Amount of energy in food.
Carbs: An energy source that is abundant in plant food.
Glucose: Most carbs are digested into glucose. It gets absorbed by each cell and burned into energy.
Gluten: A protein in wheat that makes the dough stretchy. Causes gut issues for some people.
I got it from obtainium (github). You can edit the title and put [solved] at the start. Then everyone will know.
Weird. Setting a default browser fixed it for me. The latest version of summit is 1.83.2. Maybe try updating?
Go to android settings and check if a default browser is set.

But yea fair enough and good luck.
If you believe that why don't you make your own (or switch to a) piefed instance that doesn't federate with any lemmy instance?
You are contributing to lemmy indirectly by interacting with users on lemmy.

It's probably C that's closest in the programming language world. It's old, stood the test of time and is still popular.
Making a new programming language is like inventing a new musical instrument.
It represents the creator's vision of what good music is and how easily and well it produces these sounds.
Hmm. Lemmy is a great software and free for everybody: no matter what you believe.
Whether you agree with the developer's political beliefs or not doesn't matter.
Welcome to the fediverse!

hahah no worries. I enjoy it too.

Reminds me of an episode of House md. A 17 year old girl finds Dr House really attractive, hits on him really hard and starts stalking him.
::: spoiler spoiler Turns out she had a parasite in her brain affecting her judgement. House cures her. :::
No need for the hate. Without firefox, librewolf cannot exist.
Exactly. Well said. It's still good to discuss and understand other worldviews. It's fun and mind expanding :))
