i don't travel enough for it to ever be a problem, but my sister worked in france for a few years and she just couldn't keep switching back and forth when she visited home. she ended up getting lifts everywhere so that she could stay used to driving on the right-hand side.
i wouldn't spend much time contacting politicians over it tho, i'd rather that we campaign for free & frequent public transport first 🙂↕️🙌
whether something felts in the wash is down to the fibres, and not the way items are knitted. superwash wool can be stuck in the wash without felting, but it'll still last longer and the colours will stay brighter if handwashed.
there are a lot of kits you can get in knitting shops that include a pattern and the right gauge & amount of yarn, and the kits will specify which ones are suitable for beginners, so they're great starting points. some (but not all) will include needles, so check the back of the kit to see whether you need to get them separately. beyond that, just pick the kit where you'd actually like/wear the finished product!
patterns can be a bit daunting to follow at first, so i recommend also looking at youtube tutorials as you go, so you can see videos of how each stitch is done, rather than trying to figure it out from a description/illustration. there are endless knitting youtube tutorials, you'll find something for everything from casting on, right up to repairing once you've worn an item so much that it's gained a hole in it.
best of luck with starting out! i hope you enjoy it, whether you decide to stick with knitting or just try out one project! :)
rest. i can see that you're doing a lot to try to shake yourself out of this, like keeping in touch with friends, finding new interests & hobbies, and spending as much time offline with people as possible, and maybe it sounds like an overly silly/basic suggestion, but rest is so important for recovery.
it's particularly important for neurodiverse people: don't try to brute force your way into feeling better if it's going to result in you expending even more energy on masking, and then possibly get you further into burnout.
your baseline low mood could be depression, or it could be burnout, or it could be a very reasonable reaction to global politics at the moment. all of them will need you to make sure you're getting rest and being gentle with yourself.
these things all take time to work through, and progress (both personal and political) isn't always linear, but you're resourceful and resilient as hell, so i know that you're going to come out the other side of this & find those sparks of joy again. and for what it's worth, this internet dad is cheering you on! 💪

idk, i'm wary of a study doing something that isn't UBI, but still calling it UBI, then using its not-UBI-findings to frame UBI in a negative light
maybe i'm just jaded / overly suspicious, but it feels like something that employers are going to point to, to say that UBI won't help people's wellbeing long-term & will only result in a decrease in the workforce. hopefully i'm wrong here though! 🤞😮💨
this isn't universal basic income, UBI is supposed to cover everything someone would need to survive: rent, bills, food, clothing, education, healthcare, etc.
if they wanted to boost education, they need to provide enough flippin' money that the education is free.
this just in: the barriers-to-access that intentionally prevent access are fulfilling their intended purpose 😒
i think you're likely to be jumping the gun on thinking you have antisocial personality disorder (ASPD is what is sometimes colloquially called sociopathy), particularly if you used to consider yourself a social butterfly a few years ago. it's important to remember that you're living in a country that's going through A Lot right now, and there is an intention to isolate and overwhelm people so they can't fight back effectively, so keep that in mind & be gentle with yourself!
i think it's fair to want to retain as much of your privacy as you can, particularly in the US at the moment. but a lot of people prefer convenience and conformity over taking a moral/ethical stand, and will therefore react to those who do take moral/ethical stands as an inconvenience.
in my experience, the only cure has been to seek out like-minded people, so that you can have people who share the joys of your special interests etc, while you can still meet your other friends where they're at.
maybe you could look for your nearest groups of privacy activists, or your local makerspace, or men's shed/women's shed/queer shed/etc. this won't immediately lead to a cohesive friend group, but it means you can take an active role in finding people you genuinely click with, and maybe be the one to introduce more of them to each other! :)
any time a brand does this, everyone who bought those products needs to immediately get a refund & tell all their friends/family/coworkers to avoid that brand so they lose out on future sales.
companies will only stop doing this when it hurts their pockets.
ireland's a bit more northerly than the u.s., so our seasons aren't synced up.
for us, lúnasa is a very old pre-christian festival marking the beginning of autumn & the harvest season, held on the 1st of august.
samhain, which begins at sunset on the 31st of october, marks the end of autumn & the beginning of winter, so it's always a little bit weird to hear U.S.ians talking about autumn stuff well into november, but that must just be how the seasons are when you're slightly more southerly in the northern hemisphere!
when i say "ways to view magic eye pictures", i mean the 3D picture itself. so in this example, the iris of the eye can appear either concave or convex.
apologies, i'm explaining poorly! the overlaid colours is what i meant by holographic-esque, and the iris of the eye looks convex. so you're viewing it the way i assume it's supposed to be viewed
the other way of seeing it, the iris of the eye looks concave & the colours of the whole image look more or less like the 2D version of it, they don't merge/overlap
woah, it must've been a hell of a storm to snap a tree trunk like that! 😨 i hope everyone's okay in the storm(s) and no one's homes got/get damaged.🤞

a full ban for any and all pervert glasses would be much more useful

i count spooky season as the entire autumn season, and autumn starts on the 1st of august where i am 🍁👻🍂

here in ireland, it's officially autumn from the 1st of august, so i've been revelling in harvesty autumnal things for weeks now. weeks! 🍁👻🎃🍂

less! to get the intended version, i don't cross my eyes at all, i just soften the focus of my eyes a bit.
trying too hard / trying to look "through" the picture is what accidentally got me the concave version
