The Wii cost me $50, the Wii U was $100. The extra $50 was well worth it.
Your use of uncanny valley is at odds with what I understand the term to mean. I understand the uncanny valley effect to take hold on the approach toward realism (something trying too be realistic but not quite there) - where as this is a stylized move away from realism.

Given the Virtual Wii mode, I would argue that the Wii U is the ultimate Game Cube - it has complete support for 3 generations of consoles.
